Restarting a solution
There are a number of reasons why you may want to restart a solution.
You can restart a transient analysis from a steady state analysis.
You can continue a transient analysis.
You can use a previous solution to speed up convergence of a new solution.
You can continue a paused analysis after having modified some boundary conditions or solver parameters.
The analysis may have crashed due to a memory overflow or a power failure.
Perform a restart selecting the Perform Restart check box on the Restart page in the Solution dialog box and then solve the model. The solver updates the model and uses the files residing in the specified restart directory to start the new analysis. To keep any previous solution, it is best to clone the solution and specify a new Run Directory on the Solution Details page.
You need to make sure that the solve-time units are the same for both analyses. You specify these units on the Solution Units page in the Solution dialog box.
Restarts work differently depending on which solver you are using.
