Evaluate Fatigue Histories

Use the Evaluate Fatigue Histories command to export the fatigue histories of the selected static or transient durability event to an external file. You file choices include:

  • An AFU file. This file lets you visualize the history functions in the XY Function Navigator.

  • An Excel spreadsheet. This file lets you manipulate the history functions using Excel functionality.

  • A CSV file. This file lets you store the data in a comma-separated value ASCII file.

You can request stress histories or strain histories.

Stress history on top and bottom of an element

Exporting fatigue histories lets you examine the stress or strain histories that are used to perform fatigue computations. You can manipulate the generated fatigue load histories and compute damage using the Evaluate Damage command.

History output

The durability event settings that you set in the selected fatigue durability object determine the history output.

The number of history functions that the software creates depends on the number of elements that you select in the selected solve options durability object. Select a small targeted number of elements if you want to speed up the processing of the fatigue history.

Note:

Exporting fatigue to an AFU file for a large number of elements can be slow. Reduce the set of elements in the solve options durability object to improve the exporting time.

The history functions are computed at:

  • Evaluation points of beams

  • Top and bottom surfaces of shell elements

  • Free faces of solid elements

  • Nodes. You must set Stress Axis Method to Nodal (Uni-Axial) in the selected axis search durability object.

When you set Fatigue Safety Factor Method to Dang Van in the selected fatigue durability object, the micro shear and hydrostatic stress histories are also exported.
