Nodal combination options for element-nodal results

For element-nodal results, you can define specific Nodal Combination options.

Nodal combination options

Nodal Combination Option Name Formula Result Units
Minimum VMINnode Unit of the result
Maximum VMAXnode
Absolute Minimum │VMINnode│ if │VMINnode│ < │VMAXnode││VMAXnode│ otherwise.
Absolute Maximum │VMINnode │ if │VMINnode│ > │VMAXnode││VMAXnode│ otherwise.
Arithmetic Mean (∑Vnode) / Nshared
Average For more information, see Averaging options for elemental and grid point results.
Signed Absolute Minimum VMINnode if │VMINnode│< │VMAXnode│VMAXnode otherwise.
Signed Absolute Maximum VMINnode if │VMINnode│> │VMAXnode│VMAXnode otherwise.
Sum ∑Vnode
Discontinuity See below

Note:

For invariant quantities (derived results, such as Von-Mises), the software performs the following operations in the following order.

  • For Average and Arithmetic Mean, the software averages the tensor or vector first and then evaluates the derived result.

  • For all maximum and minimum operations, the software evaluates the derived result first and then applies the combination operation.

Discontinuity options

Discontinuity Option Name Formula Result Units
Relative Discontinuity 100 x (VMAXnode - VMINnode) / (VMAXmodel - VMINmodel) Percentage
Weighted Discontinuity V1 * V2where:V1100 x (VMAXnode - VMINnode) / (VMAXmodel - VMINmodel)V2│VMAXnode│/ max (│VMAXmodel│, │VMINmodel│)
Locally Balanced Discontinuity 100 x (VMAXnode - VMINnode) / max (│VMAXnode│, │VMINnode│)
Local Discontinuity VMAXnode - VMINnode Unit of the result

Note:

  • VMINnode and VMAXnode are the minimum and maximum values at a given node.

  • Nshared is the total number of values at a given node.

  • VMINmodel and VMAXmodel are the minimum and maximum values over the whole model.

  • ∑Vnode is the sum of the values at a node.

  • Discontinuity operations are not supported for invariant quantities (derived results, such as Von-Mises).
