Global Geometric Contact Parameters dialog box

Name Description
Name Defines the name of the modeling object.
Label Specifies a unique numerical identifier for the modeling object.
Contact Threshold ERROR field in the BCPARA bulk data entry.Specifies the distance below which MSC Nastran considers the bodies to be touching.
Contact Tolerance Bias BIAS field in the BCPARA bulk data entry.Specifies the bias factor for the contact tolerance.
Separation Type IBSEP field in the BCPARA bulk data entry.Controls whether the separation is based on stresses or forces.Select Forces to use forces as the separation criterion.Select Absolute Stresses to use absolute stress values as the separation criterion.Select Absolute Integration Point Stresses to use absolute stresses by extrapolating integration point stresses as the separation criterion. Select Relative Nodal Stress to use relative nodal stress values as the separation criterion.Select Relative Integration Point Stresses to use relative stresses that are extrapolated from the integration point stresses as the separation criterion.
Separation Stress****Separation Force FNTOL field in the BCPARA bulk data entry.Specifies the separation force or stress above which a node separates from a body. If you leave this box blank, MSC Nastran automatically calculates this value.
Maximum Separations MAXSEP field in the BCPARA bulk data entry.Specifies the maximum number of allowed separations in each analysis increment.
Separation ICSEP field in the BCPARA bulk data entry.Controls when separation occurs during an iteration. If you select 0, the node separates and the iteration occurs if the force on the node is greater than the separation force. If you select 1, if a node that was in contact at the end of the previous increment has a force greater than the specified Separation Force, the node separates at the beginning of the next increment and not in the current increment. If you select 2, if a new node comes into contact during this increment, it is not allowed to separate. Additionally, this option prevents chattering. If you select 3, the software applies options 1 and 2 simultaneously.
Friction FTYPE field in the BCPARA bulk data entry.Controls the type of friction to use in the analysis.Select No Friction if you do not want to include friction in the analysis.Select Bilinear Coulomb Friction to use the bilinear Coulomb model of friction.Select Bilinear Shear Friction to use the bilinear shear model of friction.
Beam-Beam Contact BEAMB field in the BCPARA bulk data entry.Controls whether 3D beam to beam contact is active in the analysis.Select No Contact if you do not want to include 3D beam-beam contact.Select Activate Contact to include 3D beam-beam contact.
Glue Control NLGLUE field in the BCPARA bulk data entry.Controls whether permanent glue is active in the analysis.Specify 0 if you do not want to include permanent glue.Specify 1 to activate permanent glue in the analysis.
Separation Check NODSEP field in the BCPARA bulk data entry.Controls whether the software checks whether a node that has already been touched has separated.Specify a value >0 to retain the node's contact status. Specify a value <0 to separate the node from contact.
Contact Method METHOD field in the BCPARA bulk data entry.Lets you specify the contact method to use in the analysis.
Augmentation Method AUGMENT field in the BCPARA bulk data entry.Lets you specify the augmentation method to use in a segment-to-segment contact method.Select No Augmentation if you do not want to use an augmentation method.Select Constant/(Bi)linear Lagrange Multiplier Field to use an augmentation based on a constant Lagrange multiplier field for linear elements and on a (bi)linear Lagrange multiplier field for parabolic elements.Select Constant Lagrange Multiplier Field to use an augmentation method based on a constant Lagrange multiplier field.Select (Bi)linear Lagrange Multiplier Field to use an augmentation method based on a (bi) linear Lagrange multiplier field.
Augmented Lagrange Penalty Factor PENALT field in the BCPARA bulk data entry.Specifies the augmented Lagrange penalty factor. This option applies to the segment-to-segment contact methods only.
Penetration Augmentation Threshold AUGDIST field in the BCPARA bulk data entry.Specifies a penetration distance beyond which MSC Nastran applies an augmentation. This option applies to the segment-to-segment contact methods only.
Maximum Sliding Distance SLDLMT field in the BCPARA bulk data entry.Lets you specify the maximum sliding distance allowed for contact segments. Beyond this distance, MSC Nastran redefines the contact segments. This option applies to the segment-to-segment methods with large deformation. Specify a real value ≥ 0.0.
Friction Matrix SEGSYM field in the BCPARA bulk data entry.Lets you specify whether the friction matrix is symmetric or non-symmetric. This option applies to the segment-to-segment contact methods only.
Error Computation ERRBAS field in the BCPARA bulk data entry.Lets you control whether MSC Nastran computes the error globally or for each contact pair.
Maximum DDU in Newton-Raphson Cycle DDULMT field in the BCPARA bulk data entry.Lets you specify the maximum value of DDU in a Newton-Raphson cycle. Specify a real value ≥ 0.0.
Sticking Augmentation TAUGMNT field in the BCPARA bulk data entry.Lets you specify whether to use augmentation for the sticking part of friction. This option applies to the segment-to-segment contact methods only.
Sticking Augmented Lagrange Penalty Factor TPENALT field in the BCPARA bulk data entry.Lets you specify the augmented Lagrange penalty factor for the sticking part of friction. This option applies to the segment-to-segment contact methods only.
Maximum Sticking Slip Distance STKSLP field in the BCPARA bulk data entry.Specifies the maximum allowable slip distance for sticking. Beyond this distance, only sliding exists. This option applies to the segment-to-segment contact methods only. Specify a real value ≥ 0.0.
Thickness THKOFF field in the BCPARA bulk data entry.Lets you ignore thickness from the tolerance used by the Contact Searching Order option (Local Geometric Contact Parameters dialog box) when it is set to Automatic in node-to-surface contact, or from the Augmentation Threshold or Augmented Lagrange Penalty Factor in segment-to-segment contact.
