Creating a mesh inside an existing boundary
Use the Mesh from Boundary command to create a 2D mesh inside of boundaries, such as holes, or across gaps between faces or component parts. For example, in an acoustic analysis, you may want to remove holes that are not significant to the analysis or create a continuous, radiating surface for the acoustic calculations. You can use the Mesh from Boundary command to create a new 2D mesh in selected holes.
In the Mesh from Boundary dialog box, you can choose between two different methods to create the new 2D mesh:
To create a mesh between a source and a target that you define, select the Source and Target option. Select Source and Target, for example, to create a mesh to span the gap between two faces or two existing meshes. You can select either polygon edges or element edges to define the source and target. The geometry or element edges that you select do not need to form a closed loop. For more information, see Creating a 2D mesh between a source and a target.
To create a mesh with a set of element edges that define a closed boundary, select the Closed option. Select Closed, for example, to create a mesh across a hole or within a bounded set of curves. For more information, see Creating a 2D mesh inside an existing boundary.
With both the Source and Target and Closed options, you can use options in the Mesh from Boundary dialog box to define:
The location for the new 2D mesh.
The type of elements to create and any mesh-associated data properties for those elements.
The destination collector for the new mesh.
Working with Mesh from Boundary meshes
The software stores meshes created with the Mesh from Boundary command in a mesh_from_boundary node in the Simulation Navigator.
Note:
The mesh that you create with the Mesh from Boundary command is FE-based and is not associated with the underlying geometry. The software does not update FE-based meshes if the underlying part geometry is modified. Additionally, you cannot modify a mesh that you create with the Mesh from Boundary command.
