Create a selection recipe for a node
You can create a selection recipe for a node by specifying the node or selecting a node near a particular coordinate or existing point.
Note:
If you create a stacked selection recipe and add adapters to the selection recipe, the selection recipe might select more than one node or other entities.
Specify the node
in the Simulation Navigator, right-click the Selection Recipes node.To create a single-strategy selection recipe, choose New Selection Recipe. To create a stacked selection recipe that can include additional strategies or adapters, choose New Stacked Selection Recipe.
In the Name box, type a unique name for the selection recipe.
From the Strategy list, select Single Label.
If you are creating a stacked selection recipe, click Add .
From the Input Filter list, select the option that indicates where the node that you want to select exists. For example, if the same node ID exists in two different assembly FEM components, you might select Component to select the node from a particular component.
If you selected Mesh or Component from the Input Filter list, in the Input Filter subgroup, click Select Object and then select the appropriate object.
In the Node group, do one of the following:Click Select Object and then select the node in the graphics window. When you do this, the node ID appears in the Labels group. In the box in the Labels group, type the node ID and then click Set Label Selection .When you do this, the specified node is highlighted in the graphics window.Note: If you selected Mesh or Component from the Input Filter list, you can specify a node that does not exist in the selected mesh or component FEM file. If you do this, the selection recipe will not select any node.
(Optional) If you are creating a single-strategy selection recipe and want to highlight the selected entities in the graphics window, click Show Result . To stop highlighting the entities and activate the options in the dialog box so that you can change the selection recipe as needed, click Undo Result .If you are creating a stacked selection recipe, you can highlight the selected entities after you click OK in the Single Label Strategy dialog box.Tip: To see interior entities, choose View tab→Visibility group→See-Thru All .
Click OK.If you are creating a single-strategy selection recipe, the Create Selection Recipe dialog box closes, and the selection recipe appears under Selection Recipes in the Simulation Navigator. If you are creating a stacked selection recipe, the Single Label Strategy dialog box closes, and the Create Stacked Selection Recipe dialog box reappears.Tip: If you are creating a stacked selection recipe and 0 appears in the Count column in the strategy list table, the selection recipe is not selecting a node. You might have selected a node that does not exist in the specified mesh or component FEM, or specified a node ID that does not exist. To modify the strategy, right-click the strategy in the list and choose Edit. When you edit a single-label strategy, you cannot change the input filter. However, you can select a different mesh, component, or node.To use a different input filter, you must delete the existing strategy. To do this, right-click the strategy in the list and choose Delete. Then repeat steps 4–9 to create a new strategy.
(Optional) To select additional nodes or other entities, select another strategy or an adapter from the Strategy list, click Add , and then complete the displayed dialog box (if any). For example, you might select Single Label to select another node, or select Related Elements to select all of the elements connected to the previously selected node.
Click OK in the Create Stacked Selection Recipes dialog box.The selection recipe appears under Selection Recipes in the Simulation Navigator.
Select a node near a coordinate or point
in the Simulation Navigator, right-click the Selection Recipes node.To create a single-strategy selection recipe, choose New Selection Recipe. To create a stacked selection recipe that can include additional strategies or adapters, choose New Stacked Selection Recipe.
In the Name box, type a unique name for the selection recipe.
To select a node near a particular coordinate, from the Strategy list, select Coordinate. To select a node near an existing point, select Point.
If you are creating a stacked selection recipe, click Add .
From the Input Filter list, select the option that indicates where the node that you want to select exists. For example, if the coordinate or point is near two different meshes, you might select Mesh to select the node from a particular mesh.
If you selected Mesh or Component from the Input Filter list, in the Input Filter subgroup, click Select Object and then select the appropriate object.
In the Selection group, do one of the following:If you are using a coordinate strategy, click Point Dialog and then specify the coordinate using the Point dialog box. Alternatively, you can select the point creation method from the list and then take the appropriate action in the graphics window. If you are using a point strategy, click Select Object and then select the existing point in the graphics window
In the Tolerance box, type the maximum allowable distance between the specified coordinate or point and the node that you want to select. The tolerance value should be equal to or greater than the value that appears in the Distance To Nearest Node box. If the tolerance is less than that value, the selection recipe will not select a node unless the coordinate, point, or geometry changes.
From the Resolve Preference list, select the option that indicates which node to select if two or more nodes exist within the tolerance distance from the specified location:Lowest Label—Selects the node with the lowest label value.Highest Label—Selects the node with the highest label value.Closest Node—Selects the node closest to the specified coordinate or point.
(Optional) If you are creating a single-strategy selection recipe and want to highlight the selected entities in the graphics window, click Show Result . To stop highlighting the entities and activate the options in the dialog box so that you can change the selection recipe as needed, click Undo Result .If you are creating a stacked selection recipe, you can highlight the selected entities after you click OK in the Coordinate Strategy or Point Strategy dialog box.Tip: To see interior entities, choose View tab→Visibility group→See-Thru All .
Click OK.If you are creating a single-strategy selection recipe, the Create Selection Recipe dialog box closes, and the selection recipe appears under Selection Recipes in the Simulation Navigator. If you are creating a stacked selection recipe, the Coordinate Strategy or Point Strategy dialog box closes, and the Create Stacked Selection Recipe dialog box reappears.Tip: If you are creating a stacked selection recipe and 0 appears in the Count column in the strategy list table, the selection recipe is not selecting a node. You might have specified a tolerance distance that was too small. To modify the strategy, right-click the strategy in the list and choose Edit. When you edit a coordinate or point strategy, you cannot change the input filter. However, you can select a different mesh or component, as well as a different coordinate or point. To use a different input filter, you must delete the existing strategy. To do this, right-click the strategy in the list and choose Delete. Then repeat steps 4–11 to create a new strategy.
(Optional) To select additional nodes or other entities, select another strategy or an adapter from the Strategy list, click Add , and then complete the displayed dialog box (if any). For example, you might select Single Label to select another node, or select Related Elements to select all of the elements connected to the selected node.
Click OK in the Create Stacked Selection Recipes dialog box.The selection recipe appears under Selection Recipes in the Simulation Navigator.
