Create an NVH Composer project
Use this procedure to create an assembly FEM file by graphically adding component FEM files and connections.
Before you begin, set up the folders and files that NVH Composer requires. For more information, see Setting up folders and files for NVH Composer
Note:
As you work in NVH Composer, use the commands on the Edit menu or choose Undo and Redo to undo and redo your actions. There is no keystroke equivalent for these commands.
To create an NVH assembly from scratch, in Simcenter 3D Pre/Post, open a new FEM file by choosing File→New and selecting Simcenter Nastran.
Start NVH Composer by choosing Home tab→Assembly Tools group→Assembly Composer Application .A message appears that the NVH Composer application is connected to the current session.
In the NVH Assembly Composer window, choose New Project .The Project tab is populated with options for you to define.
On the Project tab, double-click to the right (1) of each option to activate it so you can set or select the required information. For example, double-clicking to the right of Project Name (2) displays a box where you can type the name of your project. Double-clicking to the right of the folder and database options opens a dialog box where you can select the folder or file. For information on the project options, see Project view.
Open the connections database by choosing Open Connection DB .The connection database populates the Connection DB tab and the Property list in the Definition tab for connections.Note: You can open the connections database at any time. However, you cannot fully define a connection until you open the database because the connection definition relies on the properties in this database. For more information, see NVH Composer connections database.
Add and define components as follows:Choose Add Component .Click each component and update the options in the Definition tab by double-clicking to the right of each option. For information on the component options, see Definition view (components).
Add and define connections as follows:Choose Add Connection .Click each connection and update the options in the Definition tab by double-clicking to the right of each option. For information on the connection options, see Definition view (connections).
As you add components and connections, adjust their positions as follows:To manually move a component or connection, click a component and choose Move . You can drag the selected component anywhere in the NVH Composer layout view. To let NVH Composer arrange the components and connections for you, choose Auto Layout .
Add lumped masses in either of the following ways:(Recommended) Import a lumped mass connection file by choosing Import Mass . For more information, see Lumped mass universal connection and Export and import lumped mass connections.Manually add lumped mass connections by choosing Add Mass .Note: Lumped mass connections do not appear in the layout view.
Check your assembly by choosing Check Assembly .NVH Composer checks the components and their connections and updates the component and connection symbols in the layout window to indicate which are valid and which are invalid.
When all components and connections have a valid status, choose Launch Assembly Composer Automation . The process of generating the assembly FEM file and its components may take several minutes. When the process is complete, the Simulation Navigator is updated with all of the assembly components including the universal connections and the corresponding elements.
Make any necessary changes to the universal connections or components in your assembly FEM file. You can make updates in NVH Composer and in Pre/Post. For more information, see Synchronize assembly connection updates
