Free Body Results dialog box
Note:
The Free Body Results command remains available for legacy purposes. Consider using the Nodal Force Report command, which provides more functionality, including saving the results as a solution or field. It is also associated with a solution and not a post view.

| Method | Specifies the method to select the elements for the grid point force and moment summation.Pick from ModelLets you select elements in the graphics window.By Element IDsLets you select elements by entering their IDs in the Element ID(s) box.Elements in GroupLets you select elements in a predefined group. |
| Select Elements | Available when Method is set to Pick from Model.Lets you select elements in the model in the graphics window. |
| Pick | Available when Method is set to Pick from Model.Specifies the method in which you can select elements in the model. This option functions the same as the Pick method for selecting nodes.SingleLets you select individual nodes or elements in the graphics window.**Box (Visible)**Lets you drag a selection box to select nodes or elements that are visible in the model's current orientation in the graphics window. Nodes or elements that are hidden behind other post view elements are not selected.**Box (All)**Lets you drag a selection box to select nodes or elements. Nodes and elements that are hidden behind other post view elements are also selected.MeshLets you select an entire mesh. All nodes or elements in the mesh are selected.Feature FaceLets you select all nodes or elements located on a feature face.Feature EdgeLets you select all nodes or elements located on an edge. |
| Elements in Group | Available when Method is set to Elements in Group.Lets you choose from a list of existing groups of elements. You can create groups using Format→Group→New.Click Apply Group to apply the selection. |
| Boolean Operation | Determines how you can specify elements in the model. The Boolean operation you select is applied to all subsequent element selections, regardless of the Method. Add to Selection Adds all selected elements to any existing selection. Add to Selection and Deselect Duplicate Pairs Adds any unique result of applying the current method, and deselects elements found by both methods. Deselect Deselects any elements that were previously selected. Select Only Not Already Selected Selects only those elements found by the current method not previously listed. Select Only Already Selected Selects only elements found by the current method that are already selected. |
| Element IDs | Available when the Method is set to By Element IDs.Lets you type the IDs of the elements to include in the grid point force summation. You can enter multiple IDs by separating them with commas. Click to confirm your entry. |
| Mark IDs | Displays the ID of each selected element in the graphics window. |
| Clear Highlights | Removes all the identifying labels or IDs from the display of the model. Clear Highlights does not deselect selected elements. |
| Clear Selection | Deselects all selected elements and clears the Selection box. |
| Interface Definition | |
| Provides options for selecting nodes to be included in the grid point force and moment summation. The options for selecting nodes work in the same way as similar options for selecting elements in the Free Body Definition group. You can select only nodes that are connected to the elements you selected in the Free Body Definition group. | |

| Location | |
| Method | Specifies the method for selecting the location about which to sum the grid point forces and grid point moments. Pick from ModelLets you select a node on the model.By Node IDLets you specify a node by entering its ID in the Node ID box.CoordinatesLets you specify a node or point location by entering its X, Y, and Z coordinates. This can be a nodal location on the model or any point in space.By CSYS OriginLets you select an existing coordinate system. The software uses the origin point of the coordinate system as the location about which to sum the grid point forces and moments. |
| Select Location | Available when Method is set to Pick from Model.Lets you select a node on the model to specify as the location about which to sum the grid point forces and moments. The software calculates the true total moment about this location. |
| X, Y, Z | Available when Method is set to Coordinates.Lets you enter X, Y, and Z coordinates for a node anywhere on the model or any point in space. |
| Select Coordinate System | Available when Method is set to By CSYS Origin.Lets you select an existing coordinate system. The software uses the origin point of the coordinate system as the location about which to sum the grid point forces and moments. Coordinate systems defined in the solver output file are listed in the Post Processing Navigator beneath the Post View node. You can also select them directly from the CSYS list in the Simulation Navigator. By default, coordinate systems are hidden in the post view. For more information about selecting coordinate systems in post-processing, see Transform results in a selected solver output coordinate system and Coordinate systems in post-processing. |
| Reference CSYS | |
| CSYS | Specifies the coordinate system in which the software should report the total forces and moments. By default, the results are shown with respect to the Absolute Rectangular (global) coordinate system. |
| Select Reference CSYS | Available when CSYS is set to Selected Cylindrical or Selected Spherical.Lets you select an existing coordinate system to use as the frame of reference for the results. |
| Output & Display Options | |
| Print Information | Generates a list of the summed forces and moments for the selected elements and nodes and writes it out to the Information window. |
| Force Display | Displays the graphics that represent the forces (magnitude or components) at the location you specified. The force graphics use a single arrowhead. |
| Moment Display | Displays the graphics that represent the moments (magnitude or components) at the location you specified. The moment graphics use a double arrowhead. |
| Magnitude | Displays the vector graphics and results values in the magnitude component (that is, the square root of the sum of the X, Y, and Z components). |
| Components | Displays the vector graphics and values in the X, Y, and Z direction components of vector data in the coordinate system selected under Reference CSYS. |
| Color swatch | Specifies the color for the force and moment vector graphics. By default, forces are displayed in red and moments are displayed in blue. |
| Units | Specifies the units in which to display the results information in the graphics and in the Information window. |
