Transfer Path Analysis (TPA) scenario (Simcenter Nastran FEM acoustics)

The Transfer Path Analysis post-processing scenario helps you to compute path contributions by visualizing loads, frequency response functions, and responses. It is available when the following data sources are available:

  • Loads from a load recipe or an external .op2 file of connection forces:Frequency-dependent forces on nodes (SORT2)Frequency-dependent vibrations on nodes (SORT2)

  • Frequency response functions (usually from a frequency response function (FRF) solution or an external file):Vibration or pressure over FRFsForce over vibration or pressure FRFsVibration over vibration FRFs

  • Responses (usually from SOL 108 or SOL 111 results or an external .op2 file):Frequency-dependent vibrations on nodes (SORT2)Frequency-dependent forces on nodes (SORT2)Frequency-dependent pressures on nodes

Use the Transfer Path Analysis scenario to visualize the following:

  • Total response

  • Projection of the selected node's contribution to the total response, to get only the in-phase part

  • The number of highest contributors within a frequency range and plotting them

  • Partial sum contributions for selected paths

  • Contributions as percentage of total response

A Transfer Path Analysis scenario that uses the:

  • Contributions - Stacked Plots definition consists of three XY graphs:Upper graph, which contains the loads.Middle graph, which contains the frequency response functions.Lower graph, which contains the response functions and the contributions.

  • Responses - Function Plots or Responses - Vector Plots definition consists of only one XY graph that shows contributions.

Parameters

The following table lists the parameters available for defining Transfer Path Analysis post-processing scenarios. They appear in the Parameters node of the Scenario Based Data-Visualization Navigator.

Parameter Definition
Show Total Response Displays the total response, when all the modes or panels are considered.
Project Contributions on Total Response Displays the projection of the selected mode or panel contribution functions on the total response.
Select Top Contributors Lets you plot a selected number of highest contributors over the complete frequency range or over a defined frequency range from all the modes or panels available. You can use this to find the modes or panels which are the highest contributors in a given frequency range.
Number of Contributors Available when the Select Top Contributors check box is selected.Sets the number of the highest contributors that you want to display.
Frequency Range Displays the contributions in the specified range.
From / To Available when the Frequency check box is selected.Sets the low and high range in the selected units.
Partial Sum Contribution Displays a single plot that contains the partial sum from the selected modes or panels.
Include Individual Contributions Available when the Partial Sum Contribution check box is selected.Displays the plots for the individual modes or panels along with the plot containing the partial sum from these selected modes or panels.
Show Contributions as % of Response Displays the plots for the selected modes or panels as percentage of the total response.
