Materials
Assign a material to a body
These steps describe how to assign a material directly to the bodies in a part file.
Note:
When you link to or copy a feature and that action creates a new body, the software copies the attributes of the source body to the target body, including its material assignment. For example, suppose you have a part that has no material assignment. In the Sketch environment, you insert a recipe curve onto a face in the part. When you open the Assign Material dialog box, you will see that the part has inherited the material that was assigned to the recipe curve.
Note:
If you are using Pre/Post, you typically assign a material to a physical property table that is used by a mesh collector. Mesh collectors define groups of meshes that share the same material, physical, and display properties.
If you are using Pre/Post and you assign a material directly to bodies in the part file, you must set the physical property table in the mesh collector to inherit the material assigned to the body.
With the part file displayed, choose Menu→Tools→Materials→Assign Materials.
From the Type list, select the appropriate option. To select one or more individual bodies in the model, choose Select Body(s).To select all bodies in the model that do not already have material assignments, choose Body(s) Without Assigned Material. To select all bodies in the model, choose All Bodies.
If you chose Select Body(s) as the Type, select the bodies to which you want to apply the material.
In the Assign Material dialog box, select a material from the Materials list.
Click Apply. The material is assigned to the body. In the Manage Materials and Material Library Manager dialog boxes, a green check mark now appears in the Used column for this material.
Click Cancel to close the dialog box.
To solve your FEM model, the physical property table in the mesh collector must be set to inherit the mesh assigned to the body. See Use an inherited material in a physical property table for more information.
