Optimization > Geometry Optimization
Define design variables for the geometry optimization
In the Optimization Setup dialog box, select Define Design Variables.
Click Create Design Variables .
From the Design Variables list, select the type of geometry attribute that you want to allow the software to modify. For example, suppose your model was created based on a sketch, and you will allow the software to change the thickness and height values on the sketch. For this example, select Sketch Dimensions.
From the first list, select the container of the attribute that you will allow the software to modify. For example, if you selected Sketch Dimensions, the list will contain the sketches associated with the part.
From the second list, select the specific attribute that you want to allow the software to modify. For example, if you selected a sketch in the first list, select the sketch dimension to modify, such as part_name::height_to_support=10.
(Optional) If you want to enter a percentage rather than an actual upper and lower limit, in the Parameters group, select Define limits by percentage. In the Percent Value box, enter the percentage change to allow. For example, to allow the software to change the sketch’s height dimension by 10%, enter 10.
In the Upper Limit and Lower Limit boxes, enter the maximum and minimum values to which the software can change the dimensions. For example, to allow the sketch’s height dimension to become a maximum of 15 and a minimum of 5, enter 15 in the Upper Limit box and 5 in the Lower Limit box.
If you selected Global Sensitivity as the Optimization Type, select Activate for Global Sensitivity to specify that this design variable should be analyzed in the sensitivity optimization.
Click OK.
