NVH Composer workflow

This workflow provides the steps for creating an NVH assembly from scratch.

Step Summary Detailed help topic
1. Set up your folders and files for NVH Composer. Before you begin, you need to create folders for NVH Composer to access, and you need to prepare the files that you will use, such as the components of the assembly and properties for the connections. Setting up folders and files for NVH Composer
2. Start NVH Composer. Create a new FEM file for Nastran and choose Home tab→Assembly Tools group→Assembly Composer Application . Create an NVH Composer project
3. Create a new project. Choose New Project .Add the project name, and define locations for the input and output folders and the material library. Create an NVH Composer projectProject viewUsing custom materials (MATML)
4. Open the connection database. Choose Open Connection DB . NVH Composer connections database
5. Add the assembly components. Choose Add Component .As you add components, choose Auto Layout to arrange the components in a horizontal row with equal spacing between each component. To move the components manually, click a component and choose Move . NVH Composer workspace
6. Define the properties for each component. Click the component and update the options in the Definition tab.The properties for each component include the component name, which must be unique, the associated FEM, assembly FEM, or Nastran file, and the hard points for each component. Definition view (components)Importing hard points as selection recipesExporting selection recipes as hard points
7. Add the connections. Choose Add Connection .When you select the components that are connected by this connection, NVH Composer adds a line between the connected components in the layout window.
8. Define the properties of each connection. Click the connection and update the options in the Definition tab. Definition view
9. Add lumped mass connections. Choose Import Mass or Add Mass . Export and import lumped mass connectionsMass List view
10. Repeat steps 5 through 9 to add the remaining components and their connections and properties. As you add the components and their connections, choose Save to save your NVH Composer project. NVH Composer creates a project definition file (XLS/XLSX or XML) and a layout file (XML).
11. Check the assembly. Choose Check Assembly .NVH Composer checks the components and their connections and updates the component and connection symbols in the layout window to indicate which are valid and which are invalid. Check and fix your NVH assembly
12. Check the status of connections and lumped masses. Choose Create Report .The reports list all of the components, and all connections grouped by type along with their status.
13. Generate the assembly FEM file. When all components and connections have a valid status, choose Launch Assembly Composer Automation . The process of generating the assembly FEM file and its components may take several minutes. When the process is complete, the Simulation Navigator is updated with all of the assembly components including the universal connections and the corresponding elements.
14. Review the results of the assembly FEM generation process. In the Output folder for your project, open the following files:AssemblyChecks.xls.log Quality audit checks
15. Update properties for the connections as necessary. You can update properties for the connections in the Pre/Post assembly FEM file or in NVH Composer. Regardless of where you make the changes, use the Synchronize command in NVH Composer to select which updates you want to retain and the direction in which you want to push them—from NVH Composer to Pre/Post or from Pre/Post to NVH Composer.
