Automatically create directionality fields

In a Ray Acoustics solution, you can specify the directionality of point ray sources by using a directionality field stored in an external file. You can create this directionality field automatically from acoustic pressure results on nodes of spherical or hemispherical microphone meshes in the following acoustic or vibro-acoustic solutions:

  • Simcenter Nastran, Simcenter Nastran with FEMAO, and MSC Nastran

  • Acoustics BEM

The software lets you then export the directionality field to an external file.

  1. In the Simulation Navigator, make sure that at least one of the above solutions exists.

  2. Choose Acoustics and Vibration tab→Directionality Field.

  3. In the Create Directionality Field dialog box, select the solution from the Solution list that you want to use to create a directionality field.

  4. Use the Subcase list to choose a subcase in one of the following ways:Choose First to specify the first subcase.Choose Last to specify the last subcase.Choose Index to make the Index box appear where you can enter an index value for a specific subcase.Note: The value must be greater than or equal to 0.

  5. In the Model Selection group, use the Selection Type list to choose result nodes in one of the following ways:Choose Nodes to select individual nodes or a mesh.Choose Selection Recipe to select a selection recipe from the Selection Recipes group from the Simulation Navigator.

  6. Click OK to create the new result variable, probe, and directionality field.The software adds the following:AcousticPressure result variable to the Result Variables list in the Result Variable Manager dialog box.In the Simulation Navigator:AcousticDirectivityProbe result probe to the Result Probes node of the selected solution.AcousticDirectivityProbe field to the Field node.

  7. Right-click the AcousticDirectivityProbe field and choose Export to export the field to an external file.

  8. Use the external file for defining the directionality of a point source in a Ray Acoustics solution.For more information about defining directionality of a point source, see Point Ray Source dialog box.
