Draping Data dialog box

When you modify the draping data of multiple plies under one global layup, the Multiple Ply Draping Data dialog box opens, which identifies the status of each draping data entity. For more information, see Multi-edit status icons below.

Draping Parameters
Solver Specifies the solver the software uses to analyze the effect of draping on fiber orientation.UnidirectionalDrapes all fibers by aligning them in the primary direction.WovenSpecifies a woven fiber ply with a warp fiber in the primary direction and a weft fiber in a secondary direction.ProjectionProjects the material orientation onto each element. You cannot define material orientation from the ply orientation when you select this option.ImportedSpecifies that layup and fiber orientations are imported from a FiberSIM file. Appears only when you import a layup.Inherited from MaterialInherits the draping solver from the type you specified on the Laminate page in the Orthotropic Material dialog box.
Lock Angle Appears when Solver is set to Unidirectional or Woven.Specifies the maximum amount of slippage that the fibers can withstand for a unidirectional ply.Specifies the maximum allowable shear angle for the woven ply. Buckling and bridging may occur beyond the maximum allowable shear angle.
Draping Path Appears only when the Solver list is set to Unidirectional or Woven.Specifies how the primary direction is defined.Geodesic defines the primary and secondary draping directions using the selected vector.Seed Curve defines the primary draping direction using a seed curve.
Select 2D Objects Lets you select the polygon faces or 2D meshes that define where the ply is draped. For the unidirectional and woven draping solvers, the faces must be contiguous.
Select Cuts Appears only when the Solver list is set to Unidirectional or Woven.Lets you select a polygon edge or contiguous element edges to specify a discontinuity in the fiber orientation. Such a discontinuity occurs at a dart in the ply material. You cannot select a curve or edge that completely divides the set of selected ply faces.
Ply Directions
Start Point Lets you select the point or node on a draped face where the ply draping solver applies the specified primary direction and secondary direction. You can either select an option from the Point list or you can click Point Constructor to open the Point dialog box and then define a point. See Point dialog box for more information.
Direction Option Specifies the method to define the primary alignment. For Unidirectional and Woven solvers, it appears when the Draping Path list is set to Geodesic and gives you the following options:VectorLets you define the primary alignment using a vector.CSYSLets you align fibers using the coordinate system. For Projection and Inherited from Material solvers, it gives you the following options:Material Orientation VectorDefine the fibers primary alignment using the material orientation vector.Note: To avoid a circular reference, do not set the material orientation to Inherited from Layup.CsysLets you select a coordinate system to align fibers to its projected X-axis.
Primary Alignment Appear when Direction Option is set to Vector.Lets you create a vector that defines the alignment at the start point of a ply. For the woven ply, the vector aligns the weft. You can either select an option from the Vector list or you can click Vector Constructor to open the Vector dialog box and then define an alignment. See Vector dialog box for more information.Reverse Direction reverses the direction of the Primary Alignment vector.
Specify CSYS Lets you specify the coordinate system that is used for aligning fibers. For the unidirectional draping solver, the primary fiber direction is aligned with the X-axis (1).For the woven draping solver, the primary fiber direction is aligned with the X-axis (1) and the secondary fiber direction is aligned with the Y-axis (2).
Select Seed Curves Appears when the Draping Path list is set to Seed Curve.Lets you select polygon edges and element edges to construct one continuous curve.
Secondary Alignment Appears only when Solver is set to Woven and Direction Option is set to Vector.Specifies how the alignment of the warp of a woven ply is defined at the start point.Use defaultOrients the weft at 90° to the warp for Pre/Post materials, or at the angle you defined in the Ply Material dialog box for ply materials.SpecifyLets you use standard vector creation tools to define the alignment of the warp of a woven ply at the start point. You can either select an option from the Vector list or you can click Vector Constructor to open the Vector dialog box and then define an alignment. See Vector dialog box for more information.Reverse Direction reverses the direction of the Secondary Alignment vector.
Draping Mesh Properties
Specify Element Size Controls how the draped element size is specified.
Percentage of Mesh Size Appears when the Specify Element Size check box is not selected.Controls the draping mesh size as a percentage of the 2D mesh.
Element Size Appears when the Specify Element Size check box is selected.Specifies the draped element size in millimeters.

Multi-edit status icons

You modify the draping data entity value by clicking the status icon.

Icon Hover text Description
No Change Indicates that the value currently defined for this draping data entity is the same for all the selected plies.
No Change Indicates that the value currently defined for this draping data entity is different for two or more of the selected plies.
Apply Change Indicates that the change you made for this draping data entity is applied when you click OK.
Indicates that the value of this draping data entity for all plies is the same as for the named ply, after you click OK.
