Mass List view

You can add mass (also called lumped mass) connections individually in NVH Composer, and you can import them. When you add them in NVH Composer, you can update the options in the Mass List view. When you import them, the options on the Mass List view are populated with the values from the imported file. If you change those values, NVH Composer updates the imported file with the changed values when you save the NVH Composer project.

Note:

The mass connections do not appear in the assembly layout view.

You can create lumped mass connections in Pre/Post and then export them for use in NVH Composer. When you create lumped mass connections in Pre/Post, be aware of the following options that NVH Composer does not support:

  • You must define a position in space for the mass, and define the locations of the legs that connect the mass to the model (Mass Type set to With Spiders). NVH Composer does not support defining the mass directly on the nodes (Mass Type set to On Nodes).

  • You must manually define the center of the spider by selecting or creating a point, or by selecting a node. NVH Composer does not support allowing the software to automatically compute the center of the spider.

To create lumped mass connections in Pre/Post, see Lumped mass universal connection and Create and edit universal connections. To export lumped mass connections to a format that you can import in NVH Composer, see Export and import lumped mass connections.

Several of the options on the Mass List view correspond to the options on the Lumped Mass dialog box for universal connections.

Option Description
Status Bright green indicates that the lumped mass connection is valid.Light green indicates that the lumped mass connection is probably valid but should be checked. When the status indicates that the connection should be checked, the options that need to be checked are displayed in the same color. If the option is not visible, scroll horizontally to locate it.Red indicates that one or more of the options has an invalid value. When the status is invalid, the option with the invalid value is also displayed in red. If the option is not visible, scroll horizontally to locate it.
Component Specifies the folder in the Simulation Navigator where you want the lumped mass to reside. For example, you might want to put lumped mass connections for external mirrors in folders called left_front_door and right_front_door.To change the folder where the lumped mass resides, click in the cell of the component you want to change and select a different component from the list. When you export lumped mass connections from Pre/Post, each Excel worksheet is named for the Simulation Navigator folder in which the lumped mass resides. If the lumped mass resides at the Universal Connections folder level, the Excel worksheet is named Assembly.
Name Specifies the name of the lumped mass connection.
Mass Sets the mass of the lumped mass. For more information, see the Mass option on the Lumped Mass dialog box.
Inertia 11#22#33#21#31#32 Corresponds to the Mass Moment of Inertia and the Mass Product of Inertia options on the Lumped Mass dialog box.
Center XCenter YCenter Z Sets the coordinates that indicate the center of the spider.
Legs Defines the coordinates of each leg. For more information, see Leg Locations on the Lumped Mass dialog box.
Connect Legs To Specifies how you want the legs to connect to the target, either to the Nearest Node or to Local Spiders. To change how you want to connect the mass to the target, click in the cell and select a different connection type from the list.Corresponds to the Connect Legs To option on the Lumped Mass dialog box.
PID/Region Selection Corresponds to Connection Target on the Lumped Mass dialog box.
Max Search Distance Specifies how you want the legs to connect to the target, either to the Nearest Node or to Local Spiders.Corresponds to the Max Search Distance option on the Lumped Mass dialog box.
Ring Options Available when Connect Legs To is set to Local Spiders.Corresponds to the Ring Options list on the Lumped Mass dialog box.
Expansion Radius Available when Ring Options is set to Expansion Radius.Corresponds to the Expansion Radius option on the Lumped Mass dialog box.
Expansion Radius Factor Available when Ring Options is set to Expansion Radius Factor.Corresponds to the Expansion Radius Factor option on the Lumped Mass dialog box.
Connect Spiders To Specifies how you want the local spider to connect to the target, either Nearest Selected Target or All Selected Targets, which lets you specify a search range.Corresponds to the Connect Spiders To options on the Lumped Mass dialog box.
Target Search Range Available when Connect Spiders To is set to All Selected Targets.Corresponds to the Target Search Range option on the Lumped Mass dialog box.
Connection Element Sets the type of element to use when the lumped mass universal connection is realized (meshed). To realize the lumped mass as CONM2+RBE2 spider(s), select Rigid Spider. To realize the lumped mass as CONM2+RBE3 spider(s), select Interpolation Spider. For more information, see Lumped mass connection elements.
