File Import dialog box (Simcenter Samcef)
File - Analysis tab
| Input File | |
|---|---|
| Samcef File Name | Specifies the Samcef file to import. You can import a plain text bank file (.dat or .datx) or a binary SDB database file (.sdb). |
| Input File Units | |
| Use solver file unit if available | Uses the units system that exists in the model you import. For more information, see the Samcef .UNIT command.Clear this check box if you want to use a new units system for the import as described below.Note: If you clear this check box but at least one unit definition exists in the imported file, the import uses that unit and assumes that other units follow the SI standard units system definition. Therefore, the import will not use any values that you set for Units (Force)(Length), Temperature, and Angle. For example, if the sole unit defined in the imported file is the length, the imported temperature values are assumed by default to be Kelvin. |
| *Units (Force)(Length)TemperatureAngle* | Note: This new units system is used only if you clear the Use solver file unit if available check box and if no units system exists in the imported file.Specify a new units system to use when you import the data. |
| Analysis and Solution | |
| Automatic Choice | Lets the importer browse the Samcef imported model to detect the analysis and solution to create in the Simulation file. |
| Analysis Type****Solution Type | Appear when the Automatic Choice check box is cleared.Lets you manually select the analysis and solution to create in the Simulation file.Note: Imported data that is not compatible with the selected analysis and solution types are imported as unsupported commands. |
| User-defined Text | |
| Import unsupported commands as user-defined text | Stores unsupported commands or data in the User Defined Text epilog. For more information, see Customizing a Simcenter Samcef input file with user defined text.Clear this check box to discard any unsupported commands or data during the import. |
Options tab
| Selections Options | |
|---|---|
| Selection Handling | Specifies how to handle the import of Samcef .SEL groups. You can import them as groups and/or regions: Create Regions OnlyYou import .SEL groups as Regions. Create Regions and GroupsYou import .SEL groups as Groups and Regions. CustomLets you customize the .SEL groups import. |
| Nodes Selections | Appears when Selection Handling is set to Custom.Select the Create Groups check box to create groups from Samcef .SEL groups of nodes.Select the Create Regions check box to create regions from Samcef .SEL groups of nodes. |
| Elements Selections | Appears when Selection Handling is set to Custom.Select the Create Groups check box to create groups from Samcef .SEL groups of elements.Select the Create Regions check box to create regions from Samcef .SEL groups of elements.Select the Create Surface Regions from 2D elements selections check box to create surface regions from Samcef .SEL groups of 2D elements. |
| Element Faces Selections | Appears when Selection Handling is set to Custom.Select the Create Surface Regions check box to create surface regions from Samcef .SEL groups of faces of elements.Select the Create Element Faces Regions check box to create elements faces regions from Samcef .SEL groups of faces of elements. |
| Element Edges Selections | Appears when Selection Handling is set to Custom.Select the Create Edges Regions check box to create edge regions from Samcef .SEL groups of edges of elements.Select the Create Element Edges Regions check box to create element edge regions from Samcef .SEL groups of edges of elements. |
| Functions Options | |
| By default, unsupported Samcef functions are stored as unitless fields in the software and also stored in the User Defined Text epilog. For more information, see Customizing a Simcenter Samcef input file with user defined textFor the following options, you can change this default behavior. | |
| Import unused functions as unitless Field | Stores unsupported functions as unitless fields.Clear this check box if you do not want to store unsupported functions as unitless fields. |
| Import unused functions as user-defined text | Stores unsupported functions in the User Defined Text epilog.Clear this check box if you do not want to store unsupported functions in the User Defined Text epilog. |
| Materials | |
| Import unused materials as user-defined text | Stores unsupported materials in the User Defined Text epilog. For more information, see Customizing a Simcenter Samcef input file with user defined text.Clear this check box if you do not want to store unsupported materials in the User Defined Text epilog. These materials are therefore ignored.Note: Clearing this check box is not recommended. |
| Composite | |
| Tolerance Angle | Sets the ply layups tolerance angle used for grouping composite data. For more information, see Importing laminates (Simcenter Samcef). |
| Orphan Nodes | |
| Remove Orphan Nodes | Select this check box if you want orphan nodes to be removed from the model. For more information, see Orphan nodes after import (Simcenter Samcef). |
| Output Requests | |
| Import .SAI | Import Samcef .SAI output requests.Clear this check box if you do not want to import the Samcef output requests.Note: In this case all the Samcef output requests that exist in the imported input file will be stored in an external file with _epilog.dat as the file extension. For more information, see Storing unsupported parameters and commands at import (Simcenter Samcef). However, the Simcenter Samcef model will contain some default output requests. For more information, see Importing output requests (Simcenter Samcef). |
| Data Compaction Options | |
| Element Associated Data | Specifies whether to import physical properties of solid elements as element-associated data.NoneThe physical properties are not imported as element-associated data. They are still imported, but as classical Physical Properties Table on the mesh collector. The Simcenter Samcef model will have one mesh collector per Physical Properties Table created.AllAll the physical properties are imported as element-associated data. The Simcenter Samcef model will have one mesh collector with all the physical properties imported as element-associated data. For more information, see Export of Element Associated Data defined on solid elements (Simcenter Samcef).Note: This option is only valid when you import solid elements. |
| Mesh Collection Criterion | Specifies whether the Samcef mesh attributes (.MAI ATT) will act as a filter when the software imports the model and creates the mesh collectors:Taken Into AccountThe Samcef mesh attributes are used as a filter.IgnoredThe Samcef mesh attributes are not used as a filter. |
Solver parameters tab
| Simcenter Samcef Parameters | |
|---|---|
| Solver Executable | Lets you specify the path to a Samcef installation folder. You can either use the UGII_SAMCEF environment variable or specify the path to a Samcef installation folder. Note: If you clear the UGII_SAMCEF check box and do not specify the path, the default Samcef solver included in the Simcenter 3D installation is used.Note: We recommend you use the default Samcef solver. |
| Solver Memory (in MB) | Lets you specify the memory for the Samcef solvers. You can either use the UGII_SAM_ZONE environment variable or specify a value. Note: If you clear the UGII_SAM_ZONE check box and do not specify a memory value, a default value of 1000MB is used. |
| User Added Parameters | Lets you add specific parameters to the Simcenter Samcef launch script. |
| Use input file path as working directory | By default, the XML plain text file (.datx) that the Samcef BACON import tool creates is stored in the same folder as the file you want to import (recommended choice).Clear this check box to define a specific folder for that XML file. |
| Simcenter Samcef Working Directory | Appears when the Use input file path as working directory check box is cleared.Specifies a valid path to a working folder where the import process can store intermediate files. |
| Solver Monitor | |
| Activate Monitor | Enables solution monitoring. |
| Keep Open After Solving | Keeps the solver monitoring window open after solving. |
| Keep Files | |
| Keep Temporary Files After Import | Retains temporary solver files that are generated during the import. The temporary files vary depending on the type of file you import. When you clear this check box, the following files are removed:For imported .dat files:import_file_name_expnx.datimport_file_name_expnx.logimport_file_name_expnx.spyimport_file_name.datxFor imported .sdb files:import_file_name_expnx.datimport_file_name_expnx.logimport_file_name_expnx.spyimport_file_name.datximport_file_name.sdbimport_file_name.spyimport_file_name.log |
