Thin Shell

Use the Thin Shell physical property table to define the thickness and non structural mass for 1D axisymmetric or 2D elements in your model. This physical property table is available in Simcenter 3D Thermal/Flow, Simcenter 3D Electronic Systems Cooling, and Simcenter 3D Space Systems Thermal.

The thermal solver uses the value of the thickness to calculate the volume of the elements and the surface area of the element edges.

The Non-Structural Mass option lets you add additional mass to the elements. This can be useful if the surface being modeled has additional features that affect thermal analysis but which do not need to be modeled in detail. For example, an aluminum plate may contain many steel screws that add thermal capacitance but are otherwise irrelevant to the model. The thermal solver uses the mass value to calculate the thermal capacitance for transient analysis.
