Simcenter Nastran Design Optimization

You can perform a Simcenter Nastran design optimization in Pre/Post. Optimization allows you to improve a proposed finite element model design to achieve the best possible product for the minimum cost.

The design optimization process adjusts the defined design variables (physical and material properties and mesh associated data) within the limits you specify as it searches for the optimum conditions, while working in the scope of your overall optimization objective and output constraints.

Supported solution step subcase types

You can include different solution subcases in a single optimization analysis that let you look at several analysis types and boundary conditions simultaneously. For example, you can consider static and dynamic analysis for a single model.

You can create the following types of subcases:

  • Statics

  • Normal Modes

  • Buckling (also requires a Statics subcase)

  • Direct Frequency

  • Modal Frequency

  • Modal Transient

  • Direct Complex

  • Modal Complex

Current limitations

The SOL 200 Design Optimization solution in Pre/Post does not yet provide support to the full complement of optimization capabilities available in Nastran itself. Currently, you can use SOL 200 Design Optimization to perform property-based optimization only. Shape sensitivity analyses are not yet supported.

Additionally, SOL 200 Design Optimization only supports optimization analyses at the component FEM level. Optimizations of assembly FEM models and superelements are not yet supported.
