Managing selection recipes
Using the right-click commands in the Simulation Navigator, you can edit, rename, copy, clone, or delete a selection recipe only when the appropriate file is the work part. For example, if you created the selection recipe when the FEM file was the work part, you can edit that selection recipe only when the FEM file is the work part.
Editing a selection recipe
Because it is not always possible to determine whether or not a selection recipe is being used by a boundary condition or other entity, you cannot make certain changes to an existing selection recipe:
When you edit a single-strategy selection recipe, you cannot change the strategy. For example, you cannot change a single-label selection recipe to a coordinate selection recipe.
When you edit a stacked selection recipe, you cannot add a new strategy or adapter, or delete an existing one. However, you can edit certain aspects of an existing strategy or adapter. To do this, right-click the strategy or adapter in the list table in the Create Stacked Selection Recipe dialog box and then choose Edit.Note: When you edit a stacked selection recipe that contains only one strategy, the Create Selection Recipe dialog box appears rather than the Create Stacked Selection Recipe dialog box. All the limitations related to a single-strategy selection recipe apply.
When you edit any selection recipe, you cannot:Change the input filter. For example, if the selection recipe currently selects entities from a particular mesh, component, or polygon body, you cannot change the selection recipe to select entities from the entire model instead. However, you can select a different mesh, component, or body.Change the type of entities that the selection recipe selects. For example, if a bounding volume selection recipe currently selects nodes, you cannot change it to select elements instead.Change the bounding volume definition method. For example, you cannot change the bounding volume from a box to a cylinder. However, you can change such things as the points or dimensions.
Copying or cloning a selection recipe
Copying a selection recipe adds a new selection recipe to the Simulation Navigator. The copy has the same settings as the original, but the name is prepended with Copy(1)of_ or an appropriate incrementing number. All the limitations that apply to editing an existing selection recipe also apply to the copy. For example, you can copy an attribute selection recipe, edit the copy, and change the name of the entities to select, but you cannot change the selection recipe to select polygon faces instead of polygon bodies.
If you need to make more significant changes to an existing selection recipe, you can clone it. When you clone a selection recipe, a dialog box appears so that you can change any aspect of the selection recipe, just as if you were creating a new one. In addition, when you clone a single-strategy selection recipe, you can convert it to a stacked selection recipe so that you can add more strategies or adapters.
When you clone a selection recipe, you can optionally delete the original selection recipe at the same time. If you do this, the clone can use the same name as the original selection recipe. However, any boundary conditions or other entities that use the original selection recipe do not automatically use the clone, even if the name is the same. You must manually edit the affected entities to use the clone instead. For more information about the effects of deleting a selection recipe that is in use, see the next section.
Deleting a selection recipe
If you delete a selection recipe that is used by a load or constraint, that boundary condition becomes asleep and will not be used when you solve the solution. To address this issue, you must edit the boundary condition and select a different selection recipe or other entity.
Caution:
If you delete a selection recipe that is used by a mesh, that mesh is deleted.
