| Methods | |
|---|---|
| Operation | Selects the envelope operation to be performed:MaximumSorts all selected components, and returns the maximum value at each node or element.MinimumSorts all selected components, and returns the minimum value at each node or element.Absolute MaximumFor results that have both positive and negative values, specifies that the absolute value of results should be used when calculating maximum values.Absolute MinimumFor results that have both positive and negative values, specifies that the absolute value of results should be used when calculating minimum values. |
| Approach | Through Load CasesCreates an envelope for each component, shell, or beam section in the result set. Note: To help you quickly create envelopes for all results, the Result Type list is automatically set to All Result Types, and the Component list is not available. Through Load Cases and ResultsCreates a results envelope across all results (result types, components, and locations) in the result set across the specified load cases. Note: Because you define the results to be enveloped across the type, component, or location level, the All Result Types option in the Result Type list is not available. |
| Output ID Results | Generates a result set that maps minimum or maximum values to the load case, iteration, mode, or time step that contributed the result. |
| Scope | |
| Type | Specifies the scope of the envelope to be either the full model or a subset.Full Result ModelThe only option available in Simcenter 3D Results Viewer.Lets you perform an envelope operation on the results of the entire model.Nodes/ElementsLets you perform an envelope operation on the results of selected nodes or elements.Selection RecipesLets you perform an envelope operation on the results defined in a selection recipe. |
| Select Element Select Node Select Object | Appear when Type is set to Nodes, Elements, or Selection Recipes.Lets you select the nodes, elements, or selection recipes from the graphics window. |
| Stacked Smart Selector Methods | Appears when Type is set to Nodes or Elements.Opens the Smart Selector Methods dialog box where you can specify a progression of smart selection filters for selecting the nodes or elements. For more information, see Smart Selector Methods dialog box. |
| Labels | Appears when Type is set to Elements or Nodes.Sets the element or node IDs to select. You can type IDs one at a time, or as a space-delimited list. After you type the IDs, click to select the specified IDs. |

Specifies the load case (linear statics solutions), mode (modal solutions), iteration (optimization solution processes), or time step (nonlinear solutions).Select All Iterations to quickly select all iterations for the selected result set. |
| Result Type | Specifies the selected result type. Available results types depend on the selected result set.Select All Result Types to quickly select all result types as the result set. |
| Ply****Layer | Appears when the loaded results contain ply or layer results.Specifies the ply or layer for laminate result types. |
| Component | Not available when Result Type is set to All Result Types.Specifies the result component or derived value to output. Available components depend on the result type.To quickly select all actual, not derived, result components, select one of the following:For nodal results, select All 3 Components to select the X, Y, and Z components. For element-nodal results, select All 6 Components to select the XX, YY, ZZ, XY, YZ, and ZX components. |
| Shell Location | Appears when the loaded results set contains shell elements.Specifies the locations for shell element result types.Select All Shell Locations to quickly select the Top, Bottom, Average, and Bending shell locations. |
| Beam Location | Appears when the loaded results set contains beam elements.Specifies the locations for beam element result types.Select All Beam Locations to quickly select the Recovery, C, D, E, and F beam locations. |
| Complex | Available when the loaded results set contains complex results.Choose the complex part or component:RealReturns the real part of the complex result at nodes. ImaginaryReturns the imaginary part of the complex result at nodes.AmplitudeReturns the absolute amplitude of the complex result at nodes.Signed AmplitudeReturns the signed amplitude of the complex result at nodes. At Phase AngleReturns the value at nodes of the complex result at a specified phase angle. Enter a value in the Phase Angle box. |
| Coordinate System | Specifies the coordinate system used to determine result components. |
| Units | Specifies the units used to define the selected result type. |
| Component/result type list | Lists all components or result types on which to perform the results envelope operation.Displays the following column headings:No. lists the unique ID assigned to the selected component. Right-click a component in the table and choose Edit to renumber the ID.Iteration/Load Case lists the specified load case, subcase, step, iterations, or mode for the specified component or result type.Result Type lists the specified result type, or the result type for the specified component.Component lists the specified result component.Units displays the current units for the listed component or result type. |
| Add Result Specification to list | Adds the selected component or result type to the load case list. |
| Delete Result Specifications | Removes the selected component or result type from the load case list. |
| Delete all Result Specifications | Removes all components or result types from the load case list. |
| Result Combination | Opens the Result Combination dialog box to specify how to combine element-nodal results. For more information, see Result Combination dialog box. |
| Output | |
| Unit System | |
| From Result | Inherits the units system used in the specified results set. Select a loaded results set from the list. |
| User Defined | Lists the results units in which the results are imported. Click Change to select new units from the Result Units dialog box. |
| Result Definition | Infers the output results system from the current part or results file. |
| Error Handling | |
| Incompatible Results | Specifies how to treat incompatible data at nodes or elements in any of the selected components or result types.SkipIgnores nodes or elements where the component or result type contain incompatible data. AbortAbandons the operation. |
| No Data | Specifies how to treat selected components or result types when data at nodes or elements is absent or incomplete.SkipIgnores the node or element where component or result type data is missing.Zero-fillOutputs a value of zero for the missing data. |
| Output | |
| Output Type | Specifies the type of output. Export to Universal FileExports a universal file to the specified directory.Create FieldNot available when the Output ID Results check box is selected. Exports the results envelope as a field. |
| Universal File | Specifies the path and filename for the resulting universal file.Enter a path and filename in the text box, or click Browse to navigate to an appropriate location. |
| Load Case Name | Specifies the load case name. This is the name that appears in the Post Processing Navigator. |
| Create Result | Specifies the type of result to create.CompanionCreates a universal file and automatically adds it as a companion result to the specified solution.Full****Full is the only choice available in Simcenter 3D Results Viewer.Creates a universal file and loads the result in the Post Processing Navigator. |
| The following options are available when the Create Result is set to Full or in Simcenter 3D Results Viewer). | |
| Create Solution | Not available in Simcenter 3D Results ViewerSelect the Create Solution check box to import the universal file to the working Simulation file and creates a new solution.
