Laminate Dynamics

Damping definition

Although there are various ways to define damping in your Nastran model, the laminate dynamics solver uses solely the modal viscous damping defined in the Laminate Dynamics Details View subpanel and ignores all other damping definitions. For instance, the following damping definitions are ignored:

  • Structural damping GE defined on the PCOMP/PCOMPG/PCOMPS laminate physical properties

  • Structural damping defined on the GE field of all material cards and CELAS2 elements

  • Structural damping defined on the GE1 and GE2 fields of the PELAS physical properties

  • Structural damping GEi and viscous damping Bi defined on the PBUSH physical properties

  • Viscous damping defined using CVISC and CDAMPi elements
