Applying pressure to polygon edges

You can use the 2D solid element (normal to edge) pressure load types of the Pressure command to apply pressure normal to edges. These load types distribute pressure to all elements that share a common polygon edge (that is, they apply the pressure to both sides of the edge).

Pressure applied to both sides of the internal polygon edge

If the internal element edges connect to elements that have the same thickness (the most common modeling case), there is no net effect on the model. When a thickness difference exists, however, the net force on the mode is as follows:

F = (P * ET * L) – (P *et * L)

where:

  • P = Pressure

  • ET = Thickness of thicker element

  • et = Thickness of thinner element

  • L = Edge length

  • F = Normal force towards the thicker element

How do I

Define a pressure load normal to 2D elements or 3D faces

Define a pressure load normal to 2D solid elements

Define a pressure load using components

Define a pressure load using radial and axial components

Define a pressure load on beams

Define a pressure load normal to regions (Abaqus)
