Solid Laminate Modeler dialog box — Ply Layup tab

Option Description
Create New Ply Lets you define and create a new ply for the layup.
Move Selected Ply Up or Move Selected Ply Down Active only when one or more plies are selected in the ply list.Lets you modify the stacking sequence by moving the selected ply or plies up or down.
Group Selected Plies Active only when one or more plies are selected in the ply list.Creates a parent group containing the selected ply or plies.
Group Selected Plies Active only when a parent group is selected in the ply list.Dissolves the selected parent group, replacing it with its constituent plies.
Unlink Selected Ply Group Active only when a child group is selected in the ply list.Disassociates the selected child group from its parent group, changing it to a parent group.
Delete Ply Active only when an item is selected in the ply list.Permanently removes the selected item from the ply list.
Undo Undoes the last command on the ply layup.
Edit Layup to Spreadsheet Opens a spreadsheet application such as Microsoft Excel, which lets you modify the layup using the spreadsheet application.
Export Layup to CSV File Exports the layup to a CSV file.
Import Layup from CSV File Imports a laminate layup from a CSV file.Note: You should import the layup into a new (undefined) layup rather than an existing layup. If you import a layup into an existing layup, the layup definition in the existing layup is overwritten.
Import Layup Using Shorthand Format Lets you define a layup using the lamination shorthand format.Note: When you import a layup into an existing layup, it overwrites the layup definition.
Paste Repetition Active only when your previous command was Copy.Lets you build a layup more quickly by allowing you to paste more than one copy of the item you selected for copying. The number you select from the Paste Repetition list determines how many times the selected item is duplicated when you click the Paste command. Duplicates are placed according to the option you select from the list located next to the Paste Repetition list. The following list is active only when your previous command was Copy.When you use the Paste command, the following options control where the copied items are inserted in the ply list in relation to the selected item, or if no item is selected, in relation to the top or bottom of the ply list.The following options are visible only when a ply is selected:Paste Above/Paste Below pastes the copied items above/below the selected ply.Paste Symmetric Above/Paste Symmetric Below pastes the copied items above/below the selected ply in the reverse order from the copied items.Paste Anti-symmetric Above/Paste Anti-symmetric Below pastes the copied items above/below the selected ply in the reverse order from the copied items and changes the orientation of the ply or plies to be anti-symmetric. The following options are visible only when no ply is selected:Paste at Top/Paste at Bottom pastes the copied items at the top/bottom of the ply list.Paste Symmetric at Top/Paste Symmetric at Bottom pastes the copied items at the top/bottom of the ply list in the reverse order from the copied items.Paste Anti-symmetric at Top/Paste Anti-symmetric at Bottom pastes the copied items at the top/bottom of the ply list in the reverse order from the copied items and changes the orientation of the ply or plies to be anti-symmetric.

Ply table Displays ply properties and ply layup. The headings of the ply list indicate the type of information the column contains.IdIdentifies the ply with a unique number. If you select the ply, then select the value for Id, the value becomes active and you can modify it by typing a new value.CompositionDisplays the material of the ply.ThicknessSpecifies the thickness of the ply. If you select the ply, then select the Thickness value, the value becomes active and you can modify it by typing a new value.AngleSpecifies the angle of the ply material in relation to the layup orientation. If you select the ply, then select the value for Angle, the value becomes active and you can modify it by typing a new value.DescriptionSpecifies a short ply description. If you select the ply, then select the value for Description, the value becomes active and you can modify it by typing a new value.Ply Failure TheoryDisplays the selected ply failure theory.Interlaminar Failure TheoryDisplays the selected interlaminar failure theory. The interlaminar failure theory for the first ply applies for the bonding between the first and second ply. The interlaminar failure theory for the last ply is not used by Nastran.You can modify ply information using right-click commands. For more information, see Laminate Modeler dialog box—Solver Properties group
Global ply id Defines the global ply ID of the selected ply. When you modify the value, you can only enter numbers that are not assigned to any ply of the selected laminate.
Ply Material Controls the type of material you can assign to the selected ply.When you select this option, the Ply Material list and the Select ply material icon are visible, allowing you to select or create laminate ply materials.When you clear this option, the Material list and the Select material icon are visible, allowing you to select or create materials.
Color swatch Specifies the color for the ply as it appears in the Ply Sketcher pane.
Thickness Sets the thickness of the selected plies.
Material Appears only when you clear the Ply Material check box.Lets you select a material for the selected ply from a list of the materials in the FEM file.
Select material Appears only when you clear the Ply Material check box.Opens the Materials dialog box to select or define a material for the selected ply.
Ply material Appears only when you select one or more plies in the ply list, and the Ply Material check box.Lets you select a ply material for the selected ply from a list of the ply materials you have previously defined in the layup.
Select ply material Appears only when you select the Ply Material check box.Opens the Laminate Ply Material Manager dialog box to select or define a laminate ply material for the selected ply.
Angle Sets the fiber angle for the selected plies. The angle defines how each ply is oriented when it is stacked in a laminate. When the angle is 0, the material properties of the ply align with the material direction that you define on the element.Note: You can enter a ply offset angle between -360° and 360°, but the software converts any angle less than -90° or greater than 90° to a value between these two limits.
Description Specifies the description of the selected ply.
Stress or Strain Output Request Not available for the PSOLID Simcenter Nastran card.Writes ply stress and strain output to the ***.f06** file or the ***.op2** file to display ply results in the Post Processing Navigator.
Ply Failure Theory Specifies the ply failure theory for the selected plies.None: The software uses the ply failure theory that you specified in the Laminate Properties group.User Defined: Lets you specify one of the ply failure theories that you defined. You can choose the user defined failure theories of type ply that are that are stored in the XML file. Use the User Defined Failure Theory XML Config File customer default to specify the XML file.The software uses the specified ply failure theory for post processing and writes it only to the PCOMPS Simcenter Nastran card.
Interlaminar Failure Theory Specifies the interlaminar failure theory for the selected plies. The interlaminar failure theory for the first ply applies for the bonding between the first and second ply. The interlaminar failure theory for the last ply is not used by Simcenter Nastran.None, the software uses the interlaminar failure theory that you specified in the Laminate Properties group.User Defined, you can specify one of your interlaminar failure theories. The choices that you have are user defined failure theories of type interlaminar that are stored in the XML file. Use the User Defined Failure Theory XML Config File customer default to specify the XML file.The software uses the specified ply failure theory for post processing and writes it only to the PCOMPS Simcenter Nastran card.
