Name
Name Sets the name for the laminate that you are defining
Reference Entity
Sources table Displays the sources from which you can select. A source is one or more geometric or FE entities. After you create an initial source, to add another source, click Add a new source .To select a source, click the row.To deselect all the geometric or FE entities from a source, on the Selection tab, in the Action group, choose Deselect All .To deselect an individual geometric or FE entity from a source, press Shift and click the entity in the graphics window. To add new geometric or FE entities to an existing source, select the entities in the graphics window and click Confirm source edit .
Delete selected source Deletes the source that is selected in the Sources table.
Add a new source Lets you create a new source.
Type Available when you add a source.Specifies the type of geometric or FE entities to select.
Name Available when you add a source.Sets the name that appears in the Sources table.
Select Object Appears when you create a new source or you select an existing source.Lets you select the geometric or FE entities for a source.
Stacked Smart Selector Methods Appears when you create a new source or you select an existing source.Opens the Smart Selector Methods dialog box where you can specify a progression of smart selection filters. For more information, see Smart Selector Methods dialog box.
Abort source edit Appears when you click Add a new source .Terminates the source creation.
Reset Appears when you click Add a new source or you select an existing source.Available when you edit a source.Resets the source to the original selection.
Confirm source edit Appears when you click Add a new source or you select an existing source.Adds the current selection of geometric or FE entities to the Sources table.
Create Laminate Physical Property Appears when Type is set to Laminate Physical Property.Opens the Laminate Modeler dialog box from which you can create a laminate.
Extraction Direction
Laminate Direction Specifies the coordinate system relative to which the software extracts the material properties such as the elastic moduli and Poisson's ratios for the laminate. This coordinate system is referred to as the laminate coordinate system.MaterialUses the material coordinate system as the laminate coordinate system.Direct InputDefines an angle about which the material coordinate system rotated about the +Z-axis to obtain the laminate coordinate system.VectorDefines a vector whose projection onto the XY-plane of the material coordinate system specifies the +X-axis of the laminate coordinate system. The +Z-axis of the laminate coordinate system coincides with the +Z-axis of the material coordinate system. The +Y-axis of the laminate coordinate system is orthogonal to the +X-axis and +Z-axis of the laminate coordinate system.
Angle Appears when Laminate Direction is set to Direct Input.Specifies the angle about which the material coordinate system is rotated about the +Z-axis to obtain the laminate coordinate system.
Specify Vector Appears when Laminate Direction is set to Vector.Specifies the vector whose projection onto the XY-plane of the material coordinate system specifies the +X-axis of the laminate coordinate system.
Angle Range Tolerance Appears when Laminate Direction is set to Vector. When the software projects the vector onto the XY-plane of the material coordinate systems for multiple elements, the resulting angle between the +X-axis of the laminate coordinate system and the corresponding +X-axis of the material coordinate system varies from element to element. If the range of all these angles is less than the angle range tolerance value, the software uses the arithmetic average of the angles as the angle between the +X-axis of the laminate coordinate system and the +X-axis of the material coordinate system for the entire laminate. If the range of all these angles is greater than the angle range tolerance value, the software issues an error message.
Invert Normal Reverses the positive sense of the out-of-plane normal direction.
Reverse Ordering of Plies Reverses the ordering of the plies relative to the positive sense of the out-of-plane normal direction.
