Identifying objects by color

The Simulation Navigator includes a Color column that displays the color of various entities in the graphics window:

  • Polygon bodies

  • MeshesNote: For an acoustic or vibro-acoustic solution, when Color Basis is set to Vibro-Acoustic Context on the Model Colors tab in the Model Display dialog box, no color appears in the Color column for structural (solid), acoustic fluid, and microphone meshes because the model uses the solver-defined colors rather than the mesh-defined colors.

  • Groups or selection recipes containing elements or element facesNote: The Color column displays the color for groups or selection recipes containing elements or element faces only when Color Basis is set to Group and Selection Recipe Element or Group and Selection Recipe Element Face.In addition, the color that appears in the Color column might not match the color that appears in the graphics window for elements or element faces that belong to multiple groups or selection recipes.

  • Coordinate systems

  • Boundary conditions (that is, loads, constraints, and simulation objects)

  • Physical propertiesNote: The Color column displays the color for physical properties only in the physical properties view, and only when Color Basis is set to Physical Property Table.

  • MaterialsNote: The Color column displays the color for materials only in the material view, and only when Color Basis is set to Material Property Table.

Modifying the displayed colors

To modify the color of a polygon body, mesh, coordinate system, or boundary condition, double-click the color in the Color column in theSimulation Navigator.

To modify the default color of non-displayable entities (such as groups of elements or element faces, physical properties, or material properties), use the Customer Defaults dialog box (SimulationPre/PostModel Display).

To modify certain colors for the current model only, use the Model Colors tab in the Model Display dialog box. For example, when you select Group and Selection Recipe Element from the Color Basis list, you can specify the color to use for each element that belongs to multiple groups, multiple selection recipes, both a group and a selection recipe, or neither a group nor a selection recipe.

Note:

For an acoustic or vibro-acoustic solution, you cannot modify the solver-defined colors for structural (solid), acoustic fluid, and microphone elements.

Using a legend to identify objects by material property color

You can easily identify objects by material property color using a legend in the graphics window. To display the legend, first display objects by material property color in the Model Display dialog box by clicking the Model Colors tab, and then selecting Material Property Table from the Color Basis list. Then to display the legend, select the Display Material Color Bar check box. When active, the legend shows material properties and corresponding colors of meshes to which they are assigned.

To additionally display the colors of material properties assigned to polygon bodies, select the Color Polygon Bodies By Assigned Material check box.

Assigning color sequences

By default, loads, constraints, and simulation objects each use the same color. For example, all loads might be red, and all constraints might be blue. To assign a series of different colors to multiple boundary conditions, select multiple boundary conditions or a folder containing multiple boundary conditions. Right-click and choose Sequence Display Colors.

To modify the colors in the sequence, in the Customer Defaults dialog box, select SimulationPre/PostBoundary Conditions, and then click the Sequence Display Colors tab.
