Fields in expressions
Like CAE expressions, fields can represent functional relationships. You can reference a field in the formula for an expression, and the field is treated like any other functional relationship in the formula. The software evaluates the field at specific values of the independent domain and uses the result in the formula.
To reference a field in an expression, use either the field (FD) function or the mapped field (FDM) function.
For fields that have a non-spatial independent domain, use the FD function.
For fields that have a spatial independent domain, as a best practice, use the FDM function.Caution: You can also use the FD function for fields that have a spatial independent domain. However, for certain scenarios, the software interprets the field differently than how you would expect. For example, if you use the FD function to reference a field whose spatial map is a local coordinate system, and you append one or more arguments to the FD function specification, the software interprets the first argument as the global X-coordinate, the second argument as the global Y-coordinate, and the third argument as the global Z-coordinate, rather than the local X, Y, and Z-coordinates, respectively.
