Model ablation or charring in a thermal analysis

  1. Choose Home tab→Properties group→Modeling Objects .

  2. In the Modeling Object Manager dialog box, select Ablation-Charring and click Create.

  3. In the Ablation-Charring dialog box, select the material that ablates or chars from the Ablation Material list or click Choose Material to create a new material. If the material only ablates and does not char, the definition is complete go to step 6. If the material chars, continue with the next step.

  4. To model charring, select Transforms at Ablation Temperature.

  5. From the Transformed Material list, select the charred material, or click Choose Material to create a new material.

  6. Click OK.

  7. In the Simulation Navigator, right-click the solution node and choose Edit.

  8. In the Solution dialog box, click the Thermal node.

  9. In the Ablation-Charring Material row, click .

  10. In the Modeling Objects Manager dialog box, under the Selection group, select the previously created Ablation-Charring modeling object and click Add to List.

  11. Click Close.

  12. In the Solution dialog box, click OK.
