Eurocode 3
Eurocode 3 gives guidelines for the design of steel structures. Based on these guidelines a catalog of fatigue analysis recommendations for a variety of seam welds is created. These guidelines can be used for the standard details of seam welds in the construction. An example of a standard weld is given in the following figure. Based on the recommendations, safety factors are determined.

An example of such a safety factor is yMf. Eurocode 3 recommends this factor for poorly accessible components and components where a failure leads to rapid failure of the whole structure (non-fail-safe components). In Specialist Durability, this safety factor can be applied by dividing the surface influence factor in the solution parameters by the value of yMf. The Eurocode 3 recommended values for yMf are given in the following table, Recommended Values for Safety Factor yMf.
| Fail-Safe Components | Non Fail-Safe components | |
|---|---|---|
| Periodic inspection and maintenance. Accessible joint detail. | 1.0 | 1.25 |
| Periodic inspection and maintenance. Poor accessibility | 1.15 | 1.35 |
For the Mean Stress Correction, Eurocode 3 recommends using SW/NS/EC3 low RS for details with low residual stresses and SW/NS/ EC3 high RS for all other details. These recommendations can be defined under the solution parameters of the fatigue analysis case in Specialist Durability.
For damage accumulation rule, Eurocode 3 recommends using the Haibach-Miner rule. The Specialist Durability-implemented Haibach-Miner rule does not account for the cut-off at N = 109 cycles as recommended in the Eurocode 3, but uses the Specialist Durability intrinsic filtering mechanisms that leads to an equivalent result.
