Replace Ideal/Master Part overview

Use Replace Ideal/Master Part to substitute an existing idealized or master part file for the file currently associated with the displayed FEM file.

Typically, you use Replace Ideal/Master Part when you have defined a FEM file with extensive material, physical, mesh, and display properties defined, such as custom material definitions or multiple mesh collectors. You can use Save As to create a copy of the FEM file, and then replace the idealized or master part file with the idealized or master part file defined for another model.

The software preserves all defined materials, physical property tables, mesh collectors, mesh collector display properties, mesh definitions, and element attributes. You can then mesh the replaced geometry using the defined mesh collectors.

Two CAE models, model_A (left) and model_B (right). The source FEM file (model_A_fem) contains extensive material, physical, and mesh properties.

With model_A_fem displayed, choose Replace Ideal/Master Part and select model_B_i. You can now mesh the geometry in model_B using the material, physical, and mesh properties defined for model_A.

Where do I find it?

With the FEM file displayed, in the Simulation Navigator, right-click the FEM node and choose Replace Ideal/Master Part.
