Abaqus environment > Importing and exporting Abaqus data
Importing Abaqus assembly models
You can import Abaqus assembly models, including the following assembly-related Abaqus keywords:
*PART and *END PART
*ASSEMBLY and *END ASSEMBLY
*INSTANCE and *END INSTANCE
You can also import load, constraint, and solution step data associated with part instances in an Abaqus assembly model.
Abaqus assembly import guidelines
Because all data defined within a part, instance, or the assembly is local to that part, instance, or assembly, node and element labels and names (such as set names and surface names) do not need to be unique throughout a model. They only need to be unique within the part, instance, or assembly where they are defined.
For Abaqus models that contain multiple instances of a single part or multiple parts, the software:Imports the model definition data (nodes, elements, materials, physical property tables, sets, surfaces). A message indicates the data that is imported.By default, the software imports the original part definition and every instance of that part, with or without re-positioning. The elements and nodes in the original part use the original part name as the mesh name in the Simulation Navigator. The meshes for the instances of the part have the original part name followed by a _INSTANCE%s suffix, where %s is the instance name. You can control whether or not to import the original part definition. For example, the following shows an instance of a part that was imported with its original part definition and the part instance without the original part definition imported. The part on the left is the original part, and the part at the right is the instance of the part is translated. The software imports all nodes and elements defined for a part as a new group in the Simulation Navigator. It uses the name of the Abaqus part as the name of the new group. If you select the Import non-instance part from assembly model check box, the software creates a group that contains all the nodes and elements from the original, non-instanced part. If you clear the Import non-instance part from assembly model check box, the software creates a group that contains all the nodes and elements from the first instance of the part within the assembly.Offsets all node labels and element labels and modifies the labels in any associated set or surface definitions. A message indicates the changes that occurred to the labels during import.Imports all currently supported load, constraint, and solution step data associated with part instances in an Abaqus assembly model.
