Initial velocity (LS-DYNA)

In the LS-DYNA environment, use the Initial Velocity command to define the initial rotational and translational velocities of selected nodes or bodies, such as in a crash analysis.

You can use options in the Type list in the Initial Velocity dialog box to specify the type of initial velocity to create.

Type list option Description Corresponding LS-DYNA keyword
INITIAL_VELOCITY Defines the initial rotational and translational velocities for selected nodes with respect to the absolute (global) coordinate system. *INITIAL_VELOCITY_GENERATION
INITIAL_VELOCITY_GENERATION Defines the initial velocities for rotating and translating bodies.Optionally, you can also specify a Start Time at which to initialize the initial velocities. INITIAL_VELOCITY_GENERATIONINITIAL_VELOCITY_GENERATION_START_TIME
INITIAL_VELOCITY_RIGID_BODY Defines initial translational and rotational velocities for selected rigid bodies. You select one or more physical property tables to define the rigid bodies. *INITIAL_VELOCITY_RIGID_BODY
