Model and mesh validation > Checking for interference between meshes
Working with the Interference Check Navigator
After you use the Interference Check command to check your model for areas in which different layers of elements interfere with each other, you can you can use options in the Interference Check Navigator dialog box to view and resolve the penetrations and intersections between the elements.
Interference Check Navigator
The Interference Check Navigator displays persistently, which means that you can use other commands, such as Mesh Display, or Show Adjacent, while you view the interference check results.
Interference Set node
You can select the Interference Set node and use commands on the right-click menu to modify the set or print the results.
Select Edit to modify the contents of the interference set. For example, select Edit and then use the Interference Check dialog box to add additional meshes to the set.
Select Refresh Results to run the analysis again after you edit the contents of the interference set.
Select Summary to print the results of the interference check to an Information window. Information window with Interference Check results
Results folders
The Interference Check navigator lists the results according to their type in folders below the Interference Set. You can expand the Intersections, Penetrations, Self Intersections, and Self Penetrations folders to list the components (meshes, mesh collectors, or contact regions) where intersection, penetration, self-intersection, or self-penetration occurs (Component 1 and Component 2).
The Interference Navigator displays the Self Intersections and Self Penetrations folders only when you select the Include Self Interference check box in the Interference Check dialog box.
The Number of Elements column lists the number of elements for each pair of components that intersect or penetrate.
For components where penetration or self-penetration occurs, the Maximum Penetration Depth column lists the maximum depth of element penetration in the pair of components.
You can use right-click commands on the results folders or on individual components to view or repair the results. For example:
To display only the interfering elements or components, right-click a results folder or a pair of components with a folder and select Show Only - Elements or Show Only - Components.
To have the software try to automatically repair all penetrations, right-click the Penetrations folder and select Automatic Resolution.
To manually repair selected instances of interference or penetration, right-click the appropriate components and select Translate Nodes - Component 1 or Translate Nodes - Component 2. The software moves the nodes and then highlights the appropriate rows in the Intersections or Penetrations folders to indicate that the displayed results are now out-of-date. To update the results, right-click the appropriate row and select Refresh Results.Highlighting indicates results that are out-of-date
