Apply loads on a laminate

  1. In the Simulation Navigator, right-click a 2D mesh collector node and choose Edit.

  2. In the Mesh Collector dialog box, in the Shell Property row, click Edit .The Laminate Modeler dialog box opens.

  3. In the Validation group, click Analyze Laminate Strength .

  4. In the Laminate Strength Analysis dialog box, enter loads per unit length in the laminate X and Y directions. These loads are equivalent to shell stress resultants. For more information, see Shell stress resultants.

  5. In the Delta Temperature box, enter temperature loads, in the form of a temperature delta from the laminate reference temperature. This is a temperature delta, not an absolute temperature. All the load components are applied simultaneously to the laminate.Note: For the NASTRAN PCOMP options MEM, BEND, SMEAR and SMCORE, the ply stresses and strains may be incorrect due to the approximations imposed by these options.

  6. Click Export to Spreadsheet or Export to CSV File .See Strength analysis data exported to a spreadsheet or a CSV file for more information.

  7. Click Plot Stress and Strain through Laminate Thickness to display the stress or strain component in the ply or the laminate coordinate system as a function of laminate thickness.

  8. In the Stress/Strain through laminate thickness dialog box, in the Coord. Sys. box, select the ply (1–2) or laminate (X–Y) coordinate system.

  9. In the Stress/Strain list, select either stress or strain.

  10. In the Component list, select the component you want to display.

  11. Click Close to exit the Stress/Strain through laminate thickness dialog box.

  12. Click Close to exit the Laminate Strength Analysis dialog box.
