Plate thickness correction
When you use plate thickness correction, the stress amplitude or range is adjusted using the thickness correction factor (TCF) in Stress Life, BWI, or TWI fatigue life criteria. The plate thickness correction formula is NOTE:
where:
α is the plate thickness ratio. This value is always positive or zero. You calculate this value using the following equation:where:tB is the thickness of the reference plate and depends on international standards.t is the thickness of the plate under consideration.
β is the plate thickness exponent. This value should be between zero and one and depends on international standards.
In this software, when you use plate thickness correction, the stress range is divided by TCF and then substituted into the life criterion equation to calculate the number of cycles to failure.
