Laminate Composites > Creating a laminate physical property > Validating laminate properties and strength
Plot a ply failure envelope
In order to view the envelopes, you must:
Define ply allowable stresses or strains.
Select a failure theory.
In the Simulation Navigator, right-click a 2D mesh collector node and choose Edit.
In the Mesh Collector dialog box, in the Shell Property row, click Edit .The Laminate Modeler dialog box opens.
In the Validation group, click Plot Failure Envelopes .
In the Failure Envelope Display dialog box, from the Layer list, select the ply for which you want to view the failure envelope.
Move the Tau 12 slider to view the effect of the in-plane shear stress for the selected ply’s material. The shape of the envelope depends on the failure theory and the allowable strengths of the ply material. The size of the envelope varies with the amount of in-plane shear stress.
Click Close.
