Parallel Configuration Tool
The Parallel Configuration Tool validates computers on which you can run parallel processing for your model.
The Parallel Configuration Tool loads the specified parallel configuration XML file. If a parallel configuration XML file is not specified, the Parallel Configuration Tool does the following to find a valid list of computers:
It loads the Parallel Configuration File.xml from the run directory.
If Parallel Configuration File.xml does not exist in the run directory, it loads any other XML file that contains a computer list.
If no computer list file exists in the run directory, it lists only the computer on which the Parallel Configuration Tool is running.
The Parallel Configuration Tool:
Validates whether the computers listed in the computer list are ready to run in parallel on multiple processes.
Validates the graphical setup for computing view factors using the Hemicube rendering method. For on screen rendering, the Hemicube rendering method supports only one processor per computer because it uses the computer’s graphic card for computing view factors. Because parallel HEMIVIEW and VUFAC thermal solver modules share the same view factor computer list, in this case, the VUFAC module also uses only one processor per computer.
Parallel Configuration Tool process
During validation, if a computer is not available for parallel processing, the computer's name appears in red, and the application displays a message in the Status row explaining why the computer is not available for parallel processing.
The application automatically validates computers as you add them to the list. You can turn off this automatic validation if you need to make extensive edits to the list. To turn the automatic validation off, choose Validation→Auto to remove the check in front of Auto.
After validation, the software automatically creates mayampi.hosts in the run directory. mayampi.hosts contains the list of valid computers for parallel processing.
A valid computer is a computer whose status is Success. Any other status makes the computer unavailable for parallel processing.
Even if the parallel configuration XML file contains computers that are not available for parallel processing, only valid ones that are listed in mayampi.hosts are used at solve time.
