VATV set workflow

You compute vibro-acoustic transfer vectors (VATVs) using a Simcenter Nastran SOL108 Vibro-Acoustic Transfer Vector or SOL 111 Vibro-Acoustic Transfer Vector solution.

Note:

For a workflow that uses a Vibro-acoustic Transfer Vector (VATV) set in a vibro-acoustic solution, see VATV set in a vibro-acoustic solution workflow.

Step Summary Detailed help topic
1. Create an acoustic fluid mesh and a structural mesh. Create the meshes in a FEM file, or in multiple FEM files and assemble them in an assembly FEM file.Model the acoustic fluid as a 3D mesh with acoustic fluid properties.Note: For an exterior acoustic analysis, create a convex acoustic fluid mesh that allows you to apply an automatically matched layer (AML). Meshing for FEM acoustic analysis
2. Assign or create an acoustic fluid material for the fluid mesh. Specify the fluid density and speed of sound. Fluid materials for acoustic analyses
3. Create a microphone mesh using a mesh primitive or using manual methods. Define microphones in the model to measure pressure results. Microphone meshMesh primitives for acoustics and vibro-acoustics analysis
4. Create a new Simulation file and make it the work part. Right-click the FEM or assembly FEM file that contains the acoustic fluid, structural, and microphone meshes and choose New Simulation. Choose the Simcenter Nastran Vibro-Acoustic simulation template. New dialog box
5. Create a new solution. In the Solution dialog box set the Solver to Simcenter Nastran, the Analysis Type to Vibro-Acoustic, and the Solution Type to one of the following:SOL 108 Vibro-Acoustic Transfer Vector****SOL 111 Vibro-Acoustic Transfer Vector Solutions and solving
6. Define the vibro-acoustic solution parameter. In the Solution dialog box on the Bulk Data page, create a Fluid-Structure Interface Modeling Parameters modeling object, where you can define parameters that control the fluid-structure interface (coupling) for the analysis. Define fluid-structure interface modeling parameters
7. Request the VATVs to create. Select Structural Free-Faces and microphone meshes.Note: Accepting the default object selects all the suitable free faces. Vibro-Acoustic Transfer Vector Output Request dialog box
8. Define forcing frequencies. In the Solution Step dialog box, in the Properties group, create a Forcing Frequencies modeling object.Compute the VATVs between the minimum and maximum frequencies of the excitation frequency range of the vibro-acoustic solution. Forcing Frequencies dialog box (Nastran)
9. (Optional) Create an AML for exterior acoustics. Create an AML to define a reflectionless artificial layer that absorbs outgoing waves regardless of their frequency and angle of incidence. Modeling exterior acoustic problems using automatically matched layersCreate an Automatically Matched Layer (AML)
10. Assign or create structural or absorbent panels. Create absorbent panels or acoustic absorber Simulation Objects on free faces of fluid elements.Or, you can use porous materials to model 3D acoustic absorbers. Create a panelCreate an acoustic absorberPorous materials
11. Assign or create structural and acoustic constraints. You can apply structural constraints only to structural nodes. You can apply acoustic constraints only to fluid nodes. You can add constraints at the solution level or to individual steps. Creating acoustic constraints
12. Solve the model. Solve the model to generate the VATVs results.During this step, Simcenter Nastran writes:A simulation_file_name-solution_name.op2 file that contains the setup (input data) for the solution in binary format.A simulation_file_name-solution_name_vatv.op2 file that contains the computed VATV matrices in binary format. Solve the model
13. Post-process the results. Select the vibro-acoustic results and choose Post-processing Scenario. Scenario-based post-processing
