Getting started > Importing and exporting finite element data > Importing finite element data > Appending a solver input file
Append a solver input file to a FEM and Simulation file
With either a FEM or Simulation file displayed, choose File→Append. If only the FEM is loaded, Simulation entities, such as loads and constraints, are ignored.
In the Solver Deck Append dialog box, select Append from the Import Behavior list.
Use the options in the Label Offsets group to adjust the offsets as necessary, or accept the defaults. To avoid conflict with IDs of existing objects, you can specify numerical offsets to control how the IDs for each imported object are generated. The software generates the default offset for Nodes, Elements, Coordinate Systems, and Physical Properties by using the next valid ID (the highest ID + 1) within each category. For the default value of All Other Entities, the software uses the next valid ID of all the other entities.
Click OK.The Import Simulation dialog box appears.
In the Import Simulation dialog box, use the Input File Units to specify the unit system used in the data you are importing. If this is a universal (.unv) file, the units are converted to the units of the FEM automatically.
In the Input File field, specify the name and location of the file you are importing or click Browse and select the file.
Click OK to close the Import Simulation dialog box.
If you are importing a universal (.unv) file, select the FEM to import from the Available FEMs list and click OK.
The Information window displays the details of the data that was imported into your FEM and Simulation file. FEM entities are appended to the current FEM and Simulation entities are appended to the current Simulation file.
