1D flow output requests

This table list the available output result sets that you can request from the thermal and flow solvers in Thermal/Flow, Electronic Systems Cooling, Space Systems Thermal, or Multiphysics.

Output request type Result set in Post Processing Navigator Description
Temperatures Fluid Temperature — Elemental****Fluid Temperature — Nodal 1D fluid temperature at the center of gravity of each 1D fluid element.
Velocities Velocity Component — Elemental****Velocity Component — Element-Nodal Flow velocity scalar value in the 1D fluid elements.
Swirl Velocities Swirl Velocity on Walls — Elemental****Swirl Velocity on Walls — Nodal Swirl velocity scalar value on 2D shell elements or on 1D axisymmetric elements where you defined One-Sided Total Temperature Effects or Two-Sided Total Temperature Effects types of the Duct Flow Boundary Conditions simulation object, or one of the convective boundary conditions. When you use a formula field to define a swirl velocity, the software outputs the elemental results, and when you use symbolic expression to define the swirl velocity, the software outputs the nodal results.
Pressures Pressure — Elemental****Pressure — Element-Nodal Total pressure in the 1D fluid elements.
Fluid Pressure on Walls — Elemental****Fluid Pressure on Walls — Nodal Total pressure in the 1D fluid elements extrapolated to the convecting walls.
Densities Fluid Density — Elemental****Fluid Density — Element-Nodal Fluid density in the 1D fluid elements.
Mass Flows Mass Flow — Elemental****Mass Flow — Element-Nodal Mass flow scalar value in the 1D fluid elements.
Stream Nominal/Reverse Direction — Elemental Nominal (1) or reverse (-1) mass flow direction for Thermal Stream loads.
Mass Flow Vector — Elemental Mass flow vector data for 1D fluid elements. Use the Arrows command to view the direction of the mass flow in ducts and streams.
Mass Flow Junction Imbalance — Elemental Scalar value that displays the difference between outgoing mass flow to incoming mass flow at 0D elements that:Represent connections between streams and ducts.Correspond to the calculated locations of Thermal Streams Junction simulation objects. These 0D elements are not part of the original mesh and used only to display results.
Reynolds Numbers Reynolds Number — Elemental****Reynolds Number — Element-Nodal Duct Reynolds number based on the hydraulic diameter in the 1D fluid elements.

Note:

  • These results are only computed on 1D fluid elements.

  • The software generates elemental result sets when the corresponding Results Location is set to Elements or Elements and Nodes. Elemental results are computed at element’s center of gravity.

  • The software generates nodal or element-nodal result sets when the corresponding Results Location is set to Nodes or Elements and Nodes. Nodal results are interpolated from elemental results of the surrounding calculation points.

  • The convective boundary conditions are the following load types:Thermal Convective ZoneThermal StreamThermal Void
