Create a system-defined expression

Expressions that you create from the context of a specific application are referred to as system-defined expressions. This example shows you how to create a system-defined expression to define the pressure distribution over a flat rectangular plate.

  1. Choose Home tab→Loads and Conditions group→Load Type list→Pressure .

  2. In the Pressure dialog box, from the Type list, select Normal Pressure on 2D Elements or 3D Element Faces.

  3. Select the geometry or FE entities to which the pressure will be applied.

  4. In the Magnitude group, in the Pressure row, click and select Expression.

  5. In the Expressions dialog box, right-click the Formula cell and choose Edit.Note: When you right-click the Formula cell, it must be colored blue in order for Edit to show up in the list of options.Note: Because you are creating the expression from the context of a specific application, the expression name, expression type, dependent domain, and dependent domain units are predetermined.

  6. In the Edit dialog box, type (x/1[mm])*(y/1[mm]) and click OK.

  7. Click OK to close the Expressions dialog box.

  8. Click OK to close the Pressure dialog box.

The graphic shows the resulting pressure distribution.
