Creating a table of fields from an existing field
You can create a table of fields from an existing field if the field is a table, formula, reference, or linked field with an independent domain that contains dissimilar variables such as Time, Cartesian, or Frequency, XY Plane, or Temperature, Strain. By creating tables of fields from fields with these types of independent domains, you avoid the inaccuracies that occur, for instance, when a non-spatial variable is treated as a spatial variable during interpolation.
When you create a table of fields from an existing field, the software creates a series of table fields that represent how the dependent domain varies with respect to the secondary portion of the independent domain at discrete values of the primary portion of the independent domain. For independent domains from which you can create a table of fields, the primary domain is always listed first and the secondary domain is always listed second in the independent domain name.
For example, if the independent domain name is Time, Cartesian, the primary domain is time and the secondary domain is Cartesian coordinates. The corresponding table of fields contains a series of table fields with each table field corresponding to a discrete time. Each table field contains tabular data that relates how the dependent domain varies with respect to Cartesian coordinates at that instant in time.
When you create a table of fields from a formula, reference, or linked field, the software creates the table of fields and retains the source field. When you create a table of fields from a table field, the software converts the source field into the table of fields and the source field is lost. If you want to keep the source field, clone the source field and create the table of fields from the clone.
When you create a table of fields from a reference field, the software creates the table of fields from values for the reference field at the instant you create the table of fields. The table of fields that is created does not update upon subsequent solves.
