Overlay scenarios

Overlay a scenario

The data source must be compatible for visualization with the existing scenario displayed in the graphics window. For more information, see Overlaying post-processing scenarios.

  1. If necessary, load data sources for plotting scenarios. For more information, see Create data sources from external files.

  2. In the Scenario Based Data-Visualization Navigator, right-click the Data Sources node, select the appropriate data source, and click Overlay. The scenario appears in the graphics window overlaid on the existing scenario. The scenario also appears under the Viewport node of the Scenario Based Data-Visualization Navigator.

Remove a scenario from an overlay

  • In the Scenario Based Data-Visualization Navigator, from the Viewport node, right-click the scenario you want to remove, and choose Remove.

Copy an overlaid scenario

  • In the Scenario Based Data-Visualization Navigator, from the Viewport node, right-click the scenario you want to copy, and choose Copy. The software duplicates the scenario using the current selection parameters. The copied scenario appears at the bottom of the Viewport node.

Connect overlaid scenarios for changing selection variables

When plotting overlaid scenarios, you can use the Synchronize Selection within Viewport right-click command to synchronize common selection variables. For example, you can change all overlaid scenarios that contain that variable to plot distance instead of force magnitude.

  • To make selection variable changes to all overlaid scenarios at once, in the Scenario Based Data-Visualization Navigator, right-click the viewport containing the overlaid scenarios, and turn on Synchronize Selection within Viewport .Changes to the selection variables for the current scenario update all the overlaid scenarios in that viewport.

  • To make selection changes for only a selected scenario, right-click the viewport containing the overlaid scenarios, and turn off Synchronize Selection within Viewport . Changes to the selection variables update only the selected scenario.
