Simcenter 3D Multiphysics workflow: mapping temperatures onto a structural model
| Step | Summary | Detailed help topic | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. | Define your Simcenter 3D Multiphysics thermal model | Create a thermal simulation file and solution using the Simcenter 3D Multiphysics Sim template. Set the Solver to Simcenter 3D Multiphysics and set the Analysis Type to Thermal. | Create a new FEM fileMeshing for Simcenter 3D Thermal/Flow, Electronic Systems Cooling, Space Systems ThermalPhysical properties and element attributesDefining materials for Simcenter 3D Thermal/Flow, Electronic Systems Cooling, and Space Systems ThermalSolution dialog box (Multiphysics) |
| 2. | Define source mapping zones in the thermal model | (Optional) In the thermal simulation file, define the necessary source mapping zones by creating Mapping constraints. If you do not define mapping zones, the software recognizes all nodes and elements in the target model as target nodes and elements. | Mapping constraint |
| 3. | Solve the thermal model | Solve the thermal solution to output the .bun file that contains the temperature results that you want to map onto the structural model, and the .map file that contains the source mapping zones. | |
| 4. | Open or create the structural model | Create the structural FEM and simulation file using the Simcenter 3D Multiphysics Sim template. Set the Solver to Simcenter 3D Multiphysics and set the Analysis Type to Structural.Create solution steps as needed. | |
| 5. | Create the mapping solution | In the structural simulation file, create a new solution with Analysis Type set to Mapping. In the Source Model Results File box, browse to the .bun file that contains the temperature results. In the Source Model Mapping File, browse to the .map or .xml file that contains the source mapping zones. In the Time Point Source list, define the output time points where the mapped results will be created. For example, you can use time values based on the solution step times from the structural solution, or the thermal time points in the input .bun file. | Mapping results data to another model in Simcenter 3D Multiphysics |
| 6. | Define target mapping zones | In the mapping solution, define Thermal Target Zone constraints to associate these zones to the source target zones that you created in the thermal model. For each type of Mapping constraint that you defined in the thermal model, you must define a corresponding constraint in the mapping solution. | Thermal Target Zone |
| 7. | Solve the mapping solution | Solve the mapping solution. This step generates a .bun file and maps the temperature results onto the structural model. You can view the mapped results in Post Processing, and you can use the .bun file as a load in the structural solution. | |
| 8. | Create a temperature load in the structural solution | In the structural solution, create a Temperature Load type of Temperature Set. In the temperature set, create an External Time-Assigned type of Temperature load that references the .bun file that you generated from the mapping solution. | Temperature SetTemperature |
| 9. | Complete the structural solution | Add other structural boundary conditions, solve the structural solution, and post process the results as needed. |
