Extract a projected length
This procedure shows you how to extract the length of the vertical edge of the box shown in the following figure.
The box encloses 14 elements in their entirety and portions of 9 other elements.
In the dialog box that contains the calculation parameter that you want to define with a projected length, in the Inputs group, in the Inputs tab, in the box of the parameter, click and choose Property Extractor. The Property Extractor dialog box appears.
From the Extraction list, select Projected Length.
In the Sources group, from the Type list, select the type of geometric or FE entities about which you want to construct the bounding box.For this example, select 2D Element.
In the graphics window, select the highlighted elements.
In the Sources group, click Confirm creation of the new source .The set of 2D elements is added to the Sources table.
In the Projected length parameters group, click CSYS Dialog .The CSYS dialog box appears and a coordinate system that you can manipulate appears in the graphics window. The edges of the bounding box that the software creates to obtain the projected length align with the X and Y-axes of this coordinate system.
Click OK.The Property Extractor dialog box reappears.
In the Projected length parameters group, from the Axis list, select Y .The value for the length of the vertical edge appears in the Extraction group, in the box.
Click OK.The dialog box that contains the calculation parameter for which you are extracting the length reappears. The formula for the expression that associates the calculation parameter with the projected length appears in the entry box of the parameter.
