Create Surface-to-Surface Contact

Define contact regions automatically

1. Choose Home tab→Loads and Conditions group→Surface-to-Surface Contact .

2. In the Surface-to-Surface Contact dialog box, select Automatic Pairing from the Type list.

3. Click Create Face Pairs .

4. In the Create Automatic Face Pairs dialog box, click Face Pair Search Subset, and then select the set of polygon faces that you want the software to automatically search for face pairs.

5. In the Create Automatic Face Pairs dialog box: (Optional) Select the Face Pair Search Subset entities.Select a Grouping Option.Specify a value in the Distance Tolerance box, representing the maximum distance between faces beyond which pairs are not detected.Preview the face pairs, and if necessary, modify the distance tolerance to generate more or fewer pairs.Click OK.For more information on automatic face paring, see Create Automatic Face Pairs dialog box.

6. In the Surface-to-Surface Contact dialog box, from the Type list, select the type of surface to surface contact.

7. Select the Overlap Projection Direction, or clear the Only Connect Overlapping Elements check box if your geometry requires it.

8. Click OK.

Define contact regions manually

1. Choose Home tab→Loads and Conditions group→Surface-to-Surface Contact .

2. In the Surface-to-Surface Contact dialog box, select Manual from the Type list.

3. In the Primary Region group select a region or click on Create Region to create one. The region must contain the primary polygon faces.

4. In the Secondary Region group select a region or click on Create Region to create one. The region must contain the secondary polygon faces.

5. In the Surface-to-Surface Contact dialog box, from the Type list, select the type of surface to surface contact.

6. Select the Overlap Projection Direction, or clear the Only Connect Overlapping Elements check box if your geometry requires it.

7. Click OK.
