Complex results options
When a solution or solution or solution process includes results written in complex format (that is, results that include both real and imaginary parts), you can use the Complex Options list to specify which part or derived value you are interested in displaying or manipulating.
Examples of solutions with complex results include SOL 107 Direct Complex Eigenvalues and SOL 110 Modal Complex Eigenvalues, with or without rotor dynamics.
An example of a solution process with complex results is Response Dynamics.
Options for displaying and manipulating complex results include:
Real returns only the real part of the complex result.
Imaginary returns only the imaginary part of the complex result.
Amplitude returns the absolute value of the magnitude of the complex result.
Signed Amplitude returns the positive or negative value of the magnitude of the complex result.
At Phase Angle returns the value of the complex result at a specified phase angle in degrees.
Use the Complex Options list in the Set Result and Deformation to determine the complex part or derived value to display when creating a contour plot post view. These settings also determine which complex part or value is animated when you animate a post view.
Use the Complex Options list on the Create Expression dialog box to define a post-processing expression that reduces a complex part or value to a scalar result at nodes or elements. You can combine reduced complex values using standard expression syntax, create a post view or graph across iterations, or export the reduced complex results to a field or a universal file. For more information about using post-processing expressions to manipulate results, see Reductionand Multiple Reduction.
