Centrifugal pressure

Use Centrifugal Pressure to create radially-varying centrifugal pressure loads. A centrifugal pressure load is a pressure distribution that is applied to the surface of solid geometry.

Note:

The Centrifugal Pressure command should not be confused with the Rotation command. The Centrifugal Pressure command creates a loading that acts on the surface of a body. The Rotation command creates a loading that acts throughout a body.

The software calculates centrifugal pressure as the sum of the static pressure and the pressure due to rotation as follows:

Pi = Ps + ½ ( ρ ω2 [(Ri)2 – (Rs)2] )

where:

  • Pi = Total pressure at radial position Ri

  • Ps = Static pressure

  • ρ = Fluid density

  • ω = Angular speed

  • Ri = Radial distance from the axis of rotation to a location on the surface of the solid geometry.

  • Rs = Radial offset from the axis of rotation

The software automatically converts the units for the pressure due to rotation to be consistent with the units for the static pressure.
