Moment load (Simcenter Samcef)
Use the Moment command to define the magnitude and direction of a moment load. Moments are applied in a node’s rotational degrees of freedom. A positive moment rotates in the direction of the element's connectivity according to the right hand rule. You can define the magnitude of a moment load as a constant value, expression, or field that defines how moment load varies with time.
You can also define a follower moment.
Note:
Because solid elements do not support rotational degrees of freedom, consult the solver's specifications to determine the best approach for applying a moment to a solid mesh.
Define a moment load on geometry or directly on nodes
You can define a moment load on selected:
Geometry (such as, curves, points, mesh points, polygon faces, or polygon edges).
Nodes
If you define the moment load on geometry, the software then maps the moment loads to the corresponding nodes.
You can use the Type list in the Moment dialog box to specify how you want to define the moment load. The geometry or FE entities to which you can apply a moment load depend on the option you select from the Type list.
Types of moments

| Magnitude and Direction | CurveMesh PointNodePointPolygon edgePolygon face | .CLM CHA/FOL NOEUD - C 4/5/6 V - [NF - TIME] | Define a force or moment load using magnitude and a single direction (Simcenter Samcef) |
| Normal | CurveMesh PointElement FacePointPolygon edgePolygon face | .CLM CHA/FOL NOEUD - C 4/5/6 V - [NF - TIME] | Define a force or moment load normal to the model (Simcenter Samcef) |

For the Magnitude and Direction and Normal types, you can define a Distribution method for distributing the moment over the geometry or FE entities. For more information on defining a Spatial field for a moment distribution, see Define a spatially-distributed force with a formula field.
