Woven fibers strength predictions
For the strength predictions, the laminate analogy is again used. An identical procedure is adopted to obtain the different strength properties. This procedure is described in detail for the case of XT. To obtain the value of XT, a unit tensile load Nx is applied to the laminate and the failure index corresponding to the Tsai-Wu failure criterion is calculated for each ply. The maximum failure index is retained and used to calculate the factor by which the Nx loading should be multiplied to produce failure. The resulting scaled loading is finally divided by the thickness of the woven ply to obtain XT. As mentioned above, the same procedure is used to predict the other strength values.
