Optimization > Geometry Optimization
Create a weight or volume constraint
In the Geometry Optimization dialog box, select Define Constraints.
Click Create Constraints .
From the Type list, select the type of response to evaluate. For example, suppose the objective of the optimization is to limit stress to some threshold, but the optimized design must be constrained to a certain weight. Select Weight.
Choose the scope of the constrain by selecting a Category. To apply the constraint to the entire model, select Model Constraints. To apply the constraint to only one type of mesh in your model, select the type of mesh. For example, if your model contains 1D and 3D meshes, but you want the constraint to be applied only to the 1D meshes, select 1D Constraints.
From the Apply To list, select Body, Face, Edge, Point, or Curve. The option that you select sets a selection filter so that you can select the appropriate areas of your model to which you want to apply the constraint.
Select the areas of the model to which to apply the constraint. If Category is set to Model Constraints, the constraint is applied to the entire model automatically.
In the Limit Type group, select whether you will define an Upper or Lower limit for the constraint.
In the Limit Value box, enter the upper or lower limit. This upper or lower limit is the response criteria that the software is not allowed to violate when converging on an optimization solution.
From the Unit list, select the appropriate units of measure for the response.
Click OK.
Click Next to move on to the Define Design Variables step of the optimization setup.
